ποΈ here to say that I read that paper and I don't even like philosophy, so can confirm @lastpositivist.bsky.social is just trying to talk himself down from admitting he writes bangers that reach outside the field
The worst catastrophes of history are caused by men who are malevolent, ignorant, and have exceptional wills.
π that's usually how I notice too
The Elon Musks of the world and their lackeys, obv. Last year's stellar novel "I Cheerfully Refuse" covered this pretty well, in fact
Avocado toast is SO out
Don't let up on Signalgate.
The Mueller report cited rampant use of Signal as a means of obstruction of justice.
The entire discussion is fait accompli.
Also guarantee it is how everyone inside this thug WH communicates.
Which means the law is being knowingly & deliberately violated every day.
National Lawyers Guild of Chicago expresses its solidarity w/ members Professor Sheila Bedi at Northwesternβs Pritzker School of Law & Palestine Legal Justice Fellow Rifqa Falaneh in face of McCarthyesque intimidation by US House of Representatives Committee on Education and Workforce. Read:
Excerpt from Rutgers University Senate resolution calling for a Mutual Academic Defense Compact. The excerpt reads: "BE IT RESOLVED THAT, the Rutgers University Senate urges the President of Rutgers University to formally propose and help establish a Mutual Academic Defense Compact (MADC) among all members of the Big Ten Academic Alliance; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT, under this compact, all participating institutions shall commit meaningful funding to a shared or distributed defense fund. This fund shall be used to provide immediate and strategic support to any member institution under direct political or legal infringement;"
This exciting resolution from Rutgers University Senate is exactly the kind of model I think higher ed needs: a mutual defense pact of, in this case, Big 10 schools. They call for member institutions to create a joint defense fund and make resources available to any member institution under attack.
Opposition to the SAVE act is focused on the threat to married women's right to vote. But I can't help thinking it was meant to target trans people and just got overenthusiastic.
Damn, State Senator Simmons can make a speech! π₯ So proud of my elected officials πͺπ»
"Just because an elected has been your friend for a minute - don't sleep on them doing stupid shit!" - State Rep Kelly Cassidy speaking up π₯
"Executive orders are vibes, not laws" - excited to be at a #TransDayOfVisibility panel with local legislators and lawyers working to protect trans people. π©΅π€π©·
This weekend, the so-called "Tesla Shield" came out to defend Elon Musk and counter the #TeslaTakedown protests.

I wonder what percentage of their motivation in seizing that power in the first place was predicated under the idea that doing so would mean that people have to like them.
itβs all so stupid but jesus christ the matrix lol
Kristi Noem in tight athleisureβwhite top, drawstring grey pantsβin front of a prison cell packed with mostly shirtless men. Noemβs hair cascades out of her navy DHS cap. The men appear to be wearing loose white patient pants. Norm wears a heavy gold-and-silver watch. The menβs arms are at their sides or clasped in front, as if theyβve been told to stand at attention. Noemβs cap is pulled low, so we canβt really see her eyes; instead, her face appears comprised mainly of lips. The menβs heads have been shaved; thereβs lighting on Noem but theyβre in the murk, hard to distinguish from one another.
I showed my wife, a historian, the Kristi Noem video. She said βholy shit!β Itβs a lot. A brief thread on bodies. It begins in the alt text belowβ¦ 1/
IT'S NOT GOOD
Reading the introduction: this is why I'm always mystified by economists wringing hands over low and falling birthrates. Like, have economists seen the morale??

Wow you are so seen
Trump is already breaking his promise to lower the cost of living.

we need to put our shoulder to the Overton window and shove it until βgovernment can be good sometimesβ is back in the center
"This leaves two questions: 1) As the Trump presidency tears along, to what degree do the parties keep their fun dad/serious mom personas, and 2) what does it take to make voters decide they want to go hang out with the other parent?"
Wow catching up on the Dave Barry take and really appreciate how you navigate the gender aspect to an inherently problematically-gendered theory
On the one hand, I'm like, "THEY'RE NOT GUIDEBOOKS" and on the other hand I'm over here reading Cory Doctrow for insights
Well, now we have a benchmark for what "critical" readings of SFF are, because we are witnessing, in real time, the results of UNcritical readings of SFF
