I would love to hear from the #WritingCommunity about when the first #MuslimPit event should be! โœจ

Mid-November, late November, or early December? ๐Ÿ‘€

I have been blessed enough to attend writing conferences such as Muslim Literary Festival where I met amazing Muslim authors such as Uzma Jalaluddin. Since my particular interests are in Islamic history and folklore, I especially love to read and write historical fantasy stories!

For my Honours thesis, I wanted to centre Muslim voices. This is why I composed a creative project about Fatima Al-Fihri, the woman who opened the first university in the world in 9th-century Fez, Morocco. As somebody who loves academics, she is a huge inspiration to me.

Though my mother read the Thousand and One Nights to me as a child, I never had the opportunity to study them in my literature classes. This is what led me to write a retelling of my favourite story, Sinbad the Sailor, which turned into my current #amquerying novel.

As the host of #MuslimPit, here is a little bit about me: my name is Ayishah, and I recently completed my degree in English Literature with a concentration in Creative Writing. Though I love British classics, fairy tales, and folklore, my favourite stories ever are the Thousand and One Nights.

In Western literature, Muslims have a history of being represented inaccurately or pushed to secondary roles. #MuslimPit is all about promoting ethical literary representation where Muslims can become the heroes of their own stories.

Hello #WritingCommunity! I'm interested in starting a pitch event with the hashtag #MuslimPit dedicated to uplifting the voices of Muslim writers who are at any stage with their manuscripts. As an #amquerying writer myself, I am passionate about expressing my religious identity through my work!

I was thinking about starting a pitch event for Muslim writers? It could centralize Muslim stories in any genre (SFF, contemporary, etc.) as well as uplift the voices of those who might come from Muslim countries that are traditionally underrepresented in literature. Thoughts #WritingCommunity ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜ƒ?
