This situation is detrimental not only to D.C. but also to our country as a whole.
D.C. has been functioning under a budget approved by Congress for the past six months. Now, we may be forced to make a $1 billion cut, significantly impacting our communities and the services they rely on.
We must prioritize our focus—and the already approved funds
As a result of this decision, we face the grim reality of job losses for teachers, police officers, and firefighters.
This is not just a setback for D.C.; it undermines the principles of small government and local control that many conservatives advocate.
This funding is crucial for essential services, including public safety, education, and health and human services.
The funds in question are local dollars that the federal government cannot use or claim.
For over 25 years, Washington, D.C. has maintained a balanced budget. However, the recent actions taken by the House threaten this stability.
Last night, the House passed a spending bill that strips D.C. of access to $1.1 billion in locally generated revenue halfway through our fiscal year.
