Looking for suggestions for outsourcing size selection on a Blue Pippin along with Illumina sequencing at a good price. I've previously used Novogene for sequencing, but they don't provide any size selection services.
More details coming soon, but mark your calendars ...
Breakout meeting for @systbiol.bsky.social⬠The Society of Systematic Biologists - will be Jan 9-11 in Baton Rouge!

Snails aggregating in a log
Had a blast illustrating some slugs for the lab while I was away on break :-)
From left to right:
Blue-grey Taildropper (Prophysaon coeruleum)
Carolina Mantleslug (Philomycus carolinianus)
Red slug (Arion rufus)
Banana slug (Ariolimax columbianus)
Preprint with postdoc @kerrycobb.bsky.social! When processes (e.g., ghost introgression) are omitted from training data, machine learning approaches are error-prone. Domain adaptation allows accurate inferences of introgression in the presence of unmodeled processes!

Looking to hire a postdoc to join the lab to work on coastal microbial ecology in the northern Gulf of Mexico!
Feel free to reach out via email with any questions. Application review starts Jan. 10, 2025.

Grad student @ashsilliman.bsky.social bringing some cool new slug MicroCT scanning to the lab!
New paper with @snaildit.bsky.socialβ
You can use paralogs to reduce long-branch attraction!
This will be especially helpful when there are no extant taxa that can be sampled to break up these branches.

Word cloud showing favorite animals from an animal diversity class. 'dog', 'snail', and 'slug' are most popular.
End of semester 'favorite animal' word cloud from my animal diversity class. Not strange at all how many of them love snails and slugs.

ONE new preprint (led by Sarthak Mishra and @snaildit.bsky.social ),
TWO new programs (reconcILS and dupcoal).
Check it out:

New from @snaildit.bsky.social and me. We find that popular methods for detecting introgression between sister species (fastsimcoal2, dadi, BPP) all have high false positive rates in biologically realistic settings.
