A blog post by Manchester's Jon Williamson for Leeds' Centre for Theoretical Philosophy. Enjoy!
You surprised? Kind of a Goodhart effect translated to individuals.
Just decline the peer review invitation.
What are you people even doing?

🎊 Springer Nature Discovers MDPI 🎊
Springer Nature has spawned a copycat journal series called "Discover" mimicking #MDPI journal titles and citation behaviours. We even made a browser game to prove it (see 🔗).

Q: What happens when a #PublishOrPerish" research culture meets #AI readable biomedical databases? A: "An explosion of formulaic research articles, including inappropriate study designs and false discoveries." New in @plosbiology.org... journals.plos.org/plosbiology/...

New paper on the demographic drivers of cultural evolution in Great Tit song published today - epic work led by @nilomr.bsky.social with help from @andreaestandia.bsky.social Ella Cole & Sara Keen. Why did we do this, and what did we find? 🧵 follows: 1/n

Welp this is horrifying. These researchers quantified the "stratigraphy" of plastic waste used in Common Coot nests. Using expiration dates, they found one nest that contained 635 (!!!) pieces of trash, including plastic dating back to 1991.

Muy bien, presionando a esos piratas!
Figure 2. Measuring changes in insect biodiversity (centre column 'Metrics' and 'Trends') can be achieved by focusing on drivers that directly or indirectly impact insect biodiversity metrics and trends (left column 'Drivers of Change'). Where data on insect populations specifically are unavailable, data from other species and ecological processes can provide inferential support for changes in insect biodiversity (right column 'Indicators of Change').
*New paper* Denialism campaigns are growing in attempts to discredit science, scientists, and the scientific process generally. Biodiversity loss denial is a new phenomenon that needs our attention.

So cool!
Amazing! Do you think that they converge in calls to coordinate migration between species?
I am searching for a dedicated someone to take a research support/coordinating role in my lab, working mainly within @erc.europa.eu project "HotLife". MSc level and up, keen interest in energetics, physiology, or thermal biology helpful but not essential. Details 👇 Would appreciate a re-post!
