not all heros wear capes... some apparently wear crazy hair?? and not much else...
I'm unsure how people really think people were downplaying a virus that can kill you, make you go blind, wipe out your immune system for years, and oh yeah come back and kill you a decade after you thought you'd shaken it.
AIPAC sure got their moneyβs worth from these 4 Dems today
A budget is a moral document.
Four democrats voted AGAINST a war powers resolution that wouldβve forced Trump to seek congressional approval to continue waging Israelβs war on Iran.
Henry Cuellar (TX)
Jared Golden (ME)
Greg Landsman (OH)
Juan Vargas (CA)
The resolution failed 219-212.

post of me in the chemo chair, comfy with a pillow and heated blanket, book of Thorn Hedge (signed by the author at RavenCon - squee!) and encouraging crocheted otter.
Latest chemo, latest re-read of a T Kingfisher book during infusion. almost done with second month and the tumors are Shrinking!!
my mom told me that when I was little and I thought my fingertips was extra special. if only it could tell us the stories of what it had been! an eagle? a tree? a tornado?
a jellyfish? a cliff edge?

She sat like a queen
among the old junk
her glossy oil brush strokes
dimmed by centuries,
a draped shawl, & dust
she smiled shyly
behind a shell covered box
some porcelain dogs
a bent tennis racket
unexpected masterpiece
a $3 purchase for the frame
worth $1.5 million

A caracara falcon
dove past the tower
terrorizing pigeons
unused to predators
in the city downtown
"you're not supposed to be here"
she whispers to it
snapping a photo
to prove the presence
of the storm-tossed bird
in Pennsylvania
reveling in its beauty
far from its Mexican home
When the moon is full,
or wild seas pound,
we feel it deep downβ
we are beasts after all
even if we wear suits
& pretend to be moreβ
gods even
as if we're not bound
to the land
that sprouted us
& we'll sink
with this ship
we take
for granted
ever poking holes
in the hull
& calling it
progress.

OMG THEY ARE PERFECT.
Look at your hand, pick a molecule, perhaps in a fingertip. The atoms that make it once traveled in space, spun into our planet, boiled out thru volcano, turned into leaves eaten to become dinosaurs, cycled on thru millennia to become part of you. We are all one with life.
We are temporary, after all
We build monuments
to convince the dust otherwiseβ
names carved in stone,
flags planted in restless ground.
But time is patient.
It waits in the quiet
between heartbeats,
reminding us
that everything we cling toβ
power, borders, angerβ
is only passing through us.
A meme of a summoning circle with the words "Catastrophic Gen Ai Bubble Collapse" in the center.
One day this stupid thing will work.
The declyne of readinge ys caused by manye thinges. A huge cause ys a systematic & decades-long devaluinge of literature at all levels of educacioun. We kan not put instrumentalitye above meaninge and still thrive. Fundinge the humanityes ys key to a just societye of well-informed citizens.
There's a well-worn path in research communication. The journal article. The conference paper. The report written for people who already speak your language.
It has its place. But it's not the only path. π§΅

We are related after all
However distantly
Fat or thin, short or tall
We share constantly
Love & care
Earth & air
Food from crops we watered
Our human joys & fears
We want to be remembered
For our deeds, not only tears
We are related
No need to be hated
As we are still alive after all
Weβre certainly not having a ball
But we hold the gifts of equity
And inclusion and diversity
Shake off the powerless lethargy
Change the world with good energy

Globally, mycorrhizal fungal communities move roughly a billion tons of carbon per year into Earth's soils, above all in old-growth forests.
Wild, natural ecosystems are the bedrock of a healthy planet. It's time we started recognising and acting on that.

I am exhausted by the way more and more people are becoming less kind, less smart and just...well, less. They are but shadows of people now, indifferent to the world and in turn overrun and eventually rendered insignificant by it. I crave and miss people that are really alive. Sry for the rant. π«’
Technocapitalistsβ great trick is to make people who hate all this bullshit feel like theyβre suffering from the same fogeys-not-coping-with-a-changing-world syndrome every generation succumbs to, rather than, say, just rejecting a rampant evil that seeks to rob us of our individuality and soul.
The painting "Night in the Steppe" shows a vast plain under a bright full moon, the light being distributed over the landscape and the water in an almost magical way.
This work is made by the renowned Ukrainian artist Ivan Marchuk, who invented the unique painting style called "plyontanism" (from the Ukrainian word plyontaty, meaning "to braid"). This technique consists of hundreds of fine, intertwined lines that create depth and an almost textile-like texture.

World bad but bills due, so...
Next Tuesday, March 10th, is the release of BUTTERFLY EFFECTS, the fifteenth (!!) book in my InCryptid series of urban fantasy chaos adventures!
There was a moment during my oral exams where I started "arguing" with one of my committee members on a certain historiographical point. They told me later that was *the* moment I passed. It proved I was enough of an expert to disagree with a bigger expert in the field and back it up with evidence.
