And I’m convinced that it’s the feeling I had last Thanksgiving that fueled me through the four hospital stays since.
And I know that when I look around today, with my beautiful wife and three wonderful sons, medical bills paid, able to eat any and everything on the table (which I will),
and a team who picked up all the pieces and let me focus on healing, that I had insurance, and friends, family, and neighbors who showed up in ways I’m still learning about more than a year later.
I saw such a full life.
Yes, I went a year without turkey. Although I could have had some, but pureed isn’t my preferred poultry preparation.
But as I sat there all I could think about was the miracle of modern medicine, the fact that I had steady employment
