In case you missed it: our review titled "Spatial structure: shaping the ecology and evolution of microbial communities" is out! ๐Ÿšจ

Let me hit you with some highlights on why spatial structure matters. (and why you should care!)

horseshoe crab is literally the animal horseshoe crab.
shoehorse crab is a crab riding a shoe, cowboy style.
crabshoe horse is a horse wearing literal crabs as shoes.
shoecrab horse is a horse telling a crab to go away.
crabhorse shoe is a pair of shoes, left one crab shaped, right one horse shaped.
horsecrab shoe is literally the same pair of shoes, flipped.

A pilot in a submersible vehicle collecting sediments samples in 30 meters of water looking for Asgards (microbial relatives of eukaryotes)

One of the biggest questions in biology is how complex cells evolved about 2 billion years ago. Here's my new story on how scientists are solving the mystery of eukaryotes like us. Gift link: nyti.ms/4qMbo22

It's always important to carefully characterize the reactivity of your favorite tools to optimize applications. We teamed up with Carla Kirschbaum and Carol V. Robinson to map photolysis reaction pathways of bifunctional lipids www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

it was already fun to look around the documentation for cmap (cmap-docs.readthedocs.io)

but @grosoane.bsky.social just added a very cool feature to toggle between color vision deficiencies. Watch your perceptually uniform color maps gain some kinks ๐Ÿ˜‚

Itโ€™s incredibly hard to study lipids in biological membranes on the nanoscale. You need near-perfect information on both membrane ultrastructure and lipid density, which usually isnโ€™t attainable. Lipid-CLEM brought to you by @mathilda95.bsky.social changes that.
