Keeping the memory of #WW2 alive by means of #OTDs. Arnhem author of two *good* books about operation Market Garden, Lost At Nijmegen & Little Sense Of Urgency (Order π via https://pre-jump.nl). Can be hired as Battlefield Guide.
Operation Spring Awakening began #OTD in 1945. After three failed attempts to relieve the besieged garrison of Budapest, the German and Hungarian armies launched a massive offensive aimed at eliminating the 3rd Ukrainian Front and a stabilizing the front line. #history #WW2 #WWII
Much more. They are a bit slow.
Is that Trump's man reporting?
It was most likely on 6 March 1943 that RTp Ardito depth-charged HM/Sub Turbulent, which was lost with all hands on patrol. She has not been found.
In August 1942 Turbulent attacked and damaged Italian merchant Nino Bixio on its northbound run. Bixio was carrying 3,200 POW, of whom 336 were killed.
I'm old enough to remember the Russian invasion of Ukraine, where the same playbook was used as a public message. What can go wrong?π€
Idiots!
In the US, only with approval of Congress the President can declare war. Republicans in Congress: "This is not war."
And still Americans think they are the greatest of nations.

The German 37 mm anti-tank gun wasn't the only weapon in its class with a bad reputation. #OTD in 1943 a report on the fighting in Tunisia compared the effect of 37 mm shells to peas bouncing off the armour of German tanks. #artillery #History #WW2 #WWII
No end in sight for the Americn Nightmare.
Just as Krupp provided the hardware that made the death and destruction of World War I possible, so too do a handful of weapons manufacturers that make the weapons used in the current military action in Iran. These companies will make money as others suffer.

On 5 March, a German AA gunner sergeant sat down and penned his report about the sinking of SS Tembien by HM/Sub Upholder on 27 February. Tembien was the last of three vessels carrying Allied POWs from Operation CRUSADER to be sunk. About 400 POWs died on her.

A manager at a firm my Dad worked for was on the Burma Railway. A Japanese firm was going to invest in the company & some of its directors visited. As they were introduced to him he turned his back on them & left the room. Later he went ballistic with the CEO over the deal & resigned in protest.
Widening is not particularly smart.
