I get the luggage thing…
But I’ve been in some ridiculous queues at St Pancras and in Paris before that definitely took longer than an airport would…
Stations in the city centre is also valid, but you could probably fly to LCY and get the DLR in for a cheaper price.
It is a wonder how the Eurostar is still operating when they’re charging 2 - 3x the cost of a flight to the same destination…
A business model propped up entirely by customers with a phobia of flying perhaps?
