Truly an amazing experience. My HST2018 group still keeps in touch! Jeff Weiner called all of the HST alumni "ambassadors" to carry the knowledge of CERN to our students and public.
That's just stunning. And impressive how he receives it. I have a Nooelec sdr sitting around doing nothing, could be a fun project.
Computer literacy including basic coding concepts will be an increasing part of many careers, so while programming as a career may wax and wane, having some skills will never be a negative.
Remember to change the battery on your thermostats, especially if youβre going to be traveling during the cold months
π’ Brilliant demonstration from @cossettej.bsky.social of the relationship between normal force and friction force on a car.
ok this is so good. Especially this incredible little game where you draw an iceberg on the screen and it will rotate it around until it's in its stable orientation. π€― joshdata.me/iceberger.html
This is a professional crisis and I'm not sure what to do about it.
I have thought about this since we saw our membership and conference attendance dropping in our region, especially among hs teachers. Fewer physics prog's producing teachers? Less AAPT involvement in college departments? More non-physicists teaching? Pref. for NSTA? High membership cost increases?
That's one of the reasons I love teaching regular/honors physics in high school using modeling. They learn all about kinematics and the relationship between the graphs of position, velocity, and acceleration, and then get a giant 'aha!' moment or two in calculus.
To be fair she does look like a chicken.
I have been out of any active gis/gsa projects for a while. Is ArcGIS just assumed, or what are the choices of mapping software? At one time I used Idrisi, and have toyed with GRASS.
I agree with your palette.
I'm trying to decide what Switch game to buy. I have the nostalgia packs with n64, nes, and Gameboy games, but it's time for something modern. Suggestions?

Probably a good-enough-by-eye bezier from an Apple II or early Mac system.
I would chastise my students for my previous answer.
It's not x = -t^2, it is x^2 = t
(Not including the translation constants)
It's not x = -y^2, it is y^2 = x
With the sudden influx of followers here I feel self-conscious that I've only posted like...nine times.
Oddly it seems to have fixed itself without intervention. π€·
I have seen this on a number of accounts including mine recently. Bsky growing pains or something else?
It kind of feels like the old Twitter band is getting back together. I've missed classic-era physics teacher Twitter.
Kid has an English assignment, where school has kids first submit essay to an "AI checker." Kid did not use AI. AI checker says the use of the word "devoid" magically turned essay into 18% AI written. Changing "devoid" makes it drop to 0%. We're spending time "un-AI-ing" an essay that has no AI.
Ever get partway through a build and think "groups of eight would be fine..."? π
Photo near sunset at the Flint Hills Scenic Overlook, Hwy 177, near Manhattan KS. Lush scrub brush and other plants in a rolling hilly expanse, sun low in the sky, deep orange, with light clouds and blue sky.
"Kansas is flyover country."
Okay. Enjoy your flight.
@mrsalvord.bsky.social It is nice to reconnect with the old school Physics teacher Twitter people here and on other platforms. Hi Megan!
This website for Misconceptions of Electricity is absolutely worth a read.
Invaluable to me back when I taught about electricity at a science museum. Written by William Beaty.

My friend at UT Austin reports campus lawyers have instructed individuals and departments to scrub public websites of any reference to diversity, equity and inclusion. Her whole job is researching UT's resistance to desegregation. Things are bad, y'all.

Apparently I am either a theoretical physicist, cosmologist, a planetary scientist, or a plain physicist, depending on my mood on a few questions.
