What a great list and amazing representation! I just read "My Home is in My Backpack" and knew it would make the list.
Congrats Lawrence!

Yay for Dayeon! I am amazed at her work and can't believe she has received such an honor for her debut book.
We love when publishers treat translation as part of the art.

I LOVE the Murderbot Diaries series and can't wait to check out this adaptation (although the armor in this image is looking pretty lackluster, hopefully it's just the screen grab quality . . . )! This is a great review for those both familiar with the series and new to it (with spoilers!).
This is devastating to the translation and literary community. Milkweed and Alice James are two publishers so dear to my heart. Please buy books from indie presses and donate to causes you support. We can all be the difference between these publishers shuttering their doors or surviving.
That's amazing Lori! Something to be really proud of. π₯°
You're right, the individual ruling will make an impact on future approaches to the topic, especially the degree of the ruling.
It's a really slippery slope to say that this will only affect one school district and not lay the groundwork for more rulings just like it . . . plus I don't really care if it affects me personally, if even one LGBTQIA+ family and child is affected that's too much.
RE: The Mahmoud v. Taylor trial β So YOUR religion is more important than MY existence. When I enter a public space, I question whether I am allow to EXIST. Imagine how that a child must feel in their classroom, wondering why the mere thought of their existence is offensive to their peer's family.
I love that translation is getting more attention in children's publishing! NorthSouth is proud to lead the charge highlighting translators on covers, in copyright, and in our publicity and marketing materials! Thank you @cbcbooks.bsky.social for the highlight!

Who's going to #tlxa25? I hope to see you there!
One I the things I find so fascinating about Murderbot in terms of culture is how people gender it, regardless of what's in the actual text. 1/
