The symbol of protest around whom we all should rally.

I am not kidding. I am not doing a bit. I am not just flattering Dana.

The unicorn speaks for all of us who have been betrayed by our nation, our neighbours, our families.

We stand and say: NAY.

I can't say that I'll be boycotting Chili's as it has been years since I've been in one, and you can't really boycott a restaurant you already don't go to. That said, I'll be happy not to change my habits, transphobia leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Panel 1: Two coffees are being placed on the counter by a barista. Written on the styrofoam cups are “Marsell” and “Ava.” Above this we see dialogue:
“See, vets can call in a ‘wellness check’ on animals if they feel like the animal’s being ABUSED.”
“You’re not a vet, though. You’re an intern.”

Panel 2: Marcel is taking his coffee, while Eva is holding hers in the foreground, while Bijou looks on.
Marcel: Even so, with the cred I have, I believe I can convince Animal Control to look in on him. They’ll even have the legal right to enter the home if need be.

Panel 3: Marcel is sipping his coffee while Bijou stands in the background.
Marcel: Oh boy. This coffee had better erase the effects of only three hours’ sleep…
Bijou: If they find Eamonn’s been mistreated, then what?

Panel 4: Wide shot of the cafe with other customers and tables. Marcel, Eva, Bijou and Quenby are standing there in a little group next to the counter.
Marcel: They confiscate the animal, take him to a shelter, and give him care. Once he’s well again, he’s at the mercy of the pound, but at least he won’t be with… well, your “friend.”

Panel 5: Eva is walking away, sipping on her coffee.
Eva: … I suppose it’s our best hope.
Marcel: If I do this for you, will you help me with Mama?

Panel 6: The four are exiting the cafe.
Eva: We’ll do our best, we promise. Just… give us time to think on how to deal with the REVEREND again.

My stomach yelling at me: YOU DID WHAT?! Me yelling back: DON'T GIVE ME A HARD TIME!!

Well, that was certainly clever of me. I brought a can of baked beans to eat for lunch but didn't bring a CAN OPENER.

I hope I'll enjoy working this afternoon on an empty stomach.

Hanging in John Lasseter's office at Pixar was a framed letter from Chuck Jones. Jones wrote to him to praise the character of Jessie in "Toy Story 2" and ask if she was created by a woman animator, because she was such a natural and believable female character.

They call it "Ship of Theseus", but for me it always has been and always will be "Arkwright's Broom". The paradox packed into a punchy one-line character gag I never forgot.

This CANNOT become law. It would ruin so many of us.

By the way, if you were one of those people who declared that not voting to prevent this made you morally superior to those of us who tried to stop it, kindly go jump in an open sewer.

The rest of you, time to make calls.

Let's not forget, Trump has been stupid about wars for decades. It's not new, it's not dementia, it's not aging, it's plain ol' dumb.

From Principles to Politics. Freedom, equality, and fellowship are principles of the republican tradition, in the U.S. and globally. Echoes can be found in liberté, egalité, fraternité ou mort (liberty, equality, and fraternity or death) in revolutionary France, in the revolutionary leader Simon Bolivar’s Letter from Jamaica, and in countless constitutions across the world. These are universal values, and they are also quintessentially American.
The Trump administration’s perversion of these American values explains why his second administration is so unpopular. But its opponents must not repeat the errors of the Biden-Harris administration, which activated a negative coalition to win the presidency in 2020 but failed to secure a durable settlement thereafter. The Biden-Harris administration’s fundamental error was refusing to confront the enemy of freedom, equality, and fellowship as the enemy. Biden and Harris knew exactly the stakes; they warned Americans of what the Trump administration would do if returned to office in 2025. Yet they believed that normal politics was possible, and hoped to turn the other cheek, to bless those who cursed them. “The fever will break,” Biden had been predicting since Obama’s reelection in 2012.
The Nazi propagandist Carl Schmitt was right to identify liberal democracy’s weakness: reducing political conflict to disagreement over economic policy or cultural values. But when the procedures of liberal democracy have been distorted by antidemocratic forces, the liberal’s response to these distortions must be unequivocal. Every liberal—republican, conservative, socialist, Christian, or any other—must draw the line when confronted with lawlessness, corruption, and perfidy by those who abandon freedom, equality, and fellowship for their personal ends. There can be no compromise on these principles.

The anti-Trump coalition is a negative coalition, defined by what it opposes. Durable political change requires a positive coalition, defined by what it believes and the principles that will defend. Here is my outline of those principles... and the stakes.
