I’m getting real sick of “monster” romances that are just contemps where the MMC is tall and hairy. If you don’t give me some otherworldly magical discovery and some complicated anatomy issues, you can show yourself the door. Also a lot of it carries the tone of “I dated a black guy once.”

a man and a woman are looking into each others eyes
ALT: a man and a woman are looking into each others eyes
For #BHM, I like to tweet a #Blackwoman author daily whose #romancebooks I enjoy. As I have been traveling the last week, I will start a couple of days late this year but it's definitely on the list. I will also post a thread on other apps. 🪷 📚 #romance #books #booksky #booktok #darkromance

Every single time a story like this is reported, we must assume that there are many many more that do not.

Folks:
This is important.
SHEAR—the Society for Historians of the Early American Republic (a GREAT organization)—is tracking examples of the regime erasing history.

Walz demands DHS stop detaining Minnesota children
In a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, Walz demanded details about how many Minnesota kids are in detention facilities.
They’re taking children from Minnesota and locking them up like criminals in detention camps in Texas.
For the love of God, send our kids home and bring an end to this nightmare.

Just spotted Say You’ll Be Mine. Loved Mina and Karthik! You know the book is good when I can remember the character’s names more than a year later.

Slow reading month, but mostly a good time. Most of the time I felt decision fatigue on what to read so I made myself a little menu in canva for next month #booksky

How One Guy Crowdsourced More Than 500 Dashcams for Minneapolis to Film ICE
‘We have to make sure people are watching. We have to make sure we’re keeping track of our community members.’
When self-employed software engineer Nick Benson put out the call for dashcams online, he thought he’d get maybe 10 people to donate. More than 500 have shown up on his front porch in suburban Minneapolis.

Made it 50% and I just can’t anymore. She’s trying way too hard. This will be really profound to a 22 year old somewhere though.

Listening to the audio of Half His Age by Jennette McCurdy and I don’t think it’s working for me. It feels off, subject matter aside, like she’s trying too hard. The throw away use of the r-word was certainly a choice.

Slowly preparing myself to go back to work on Monday after about 10 days off. Today’s activity is getting a loaf of bread made for breakfast sandwiches. I was so good about not buying bread from the store (nothing against, this is just a low effort task for me) this summer but fell off in the fall.

Forever obsessed with Emily Austin. 53 pages into Is This A Cry For Help? (Out 1.13) and I’m so gripped. I always feel so see by her main characters. This passage in particular really got to me.

This is what I mean when I say anti-homeless policies are inherently undemocratic and will catch up to other people one way or another.

The news about Harlequin translators getting fired en masse?
You should care about that. They're doing it there because they think nobody gives a shit about romance and so it's fine to experiment with it first.

It is about this: because so many people do not give a shit about romance, shit gets tried in romance first.
You should pay attention to romance publishing news and care about it, because they will try that shit here first.

So I am going to say something about romance as a genre.
A lot of people think that romance is ignorable because <insert thing they think about romance> and romance authors don't count because <insert thing they think about romance>.
This thread is not about whether you have to like romance.
