I imagine it's just something that'll get easier more with time and experience, hopefully.
I get where you are coming from, it can be hard to know if something is "correct" or not. Game jamshelped me a significant amount with this by forcing me to explore ideas and themes outside of my comfort zone and to just do the dang thing. But there is always that feeling of "am i wasting time?"
