Rewatching ROBOCOP: THE SERIES (1994): Episode 19: “Nano” (spoilers) | Christopher L. Bennett Get more from Christopher L. Bennett on Patreon

In my #Robocop rewatch, it's the inevitable 1990s nanotech-themed episode, with Victor A. Young giving a strong villain performance and Yvette Nipar knocking it out of the park acting-wise. Following my #Patreon TV reviews & analysis helps support my writing career!

Of course, the Dalek/garlic pun/mixup can only happen with an English or other non-rhotic accent, but I guess that's entirely appropriate. (Americans unfamiliar with DOCTOR WHO tend to assume it's pronounced "Day-lek.")

Amusing that they claimed they "found" the sensational character rather than creating him, as if he were a wannabe child star they discovered shining shoes.

They say right on the first page that he's inspired by Robin Hood, yet decades of fans & writers have assumed he was named for a bird.

Maybe they got lost.

They didn't say it was in a straight line, did they?

Even naming the operation "Epic Fury" underlines that their only mission statement is that violence is cool.

You mean Ali Khamenei. Ruhollah Khomeini was his predecessor who died 37 years ago.

I didn't interpret that as their homeworld, but as the portal to the dimensional pocket they inhabit. We saw it open up and close around the shuttle like one of those origami paper fortune-teller things kids play with.

I felt it was a huge step backward when the animated series THE BATMAN ditched the "Batwave" smartphone alert that Bruce had been using for the first 2 seasons in favor of reverting to the 1940s technology of a searchlight. By now, the "Bat-Signal" should be a website. Or a Bluesky account.

I suspect I might have succeeded at making an appointment if I'd engaged with the computer voice on the phone instead of demanding to talk to a human being, but I feel insulted when a synthetic phone voice says "How can I help you" as if trying to fool me into thinking it's a person.

Went to a Dr.'s website to make an appointment. It directed me to a phone number. Called the number. Got a recording saying "most appointments can be made on our website." Tried the link they gave, ended up at same page with same phone number. Where I got put on hold muzak until I gave up.

Expecting LLMs to provide reliable information or advice is like expecting the same of a Ouija board. All they do is passively point to whatever answer the pressure of their collective input pushes them toward.

It wasn't on Kirk's watch, but Commodore Wesley's watch. Kirk was just one of four captains under his command for the war games. So Wesley would've been the one to take the heat. Maybe that's why he was retired from Starfleet when we saw him again in "One of Our Planets is Missing."

We don't know that. Only the Daystrom Institute has been referenced in later productions, not the man himself. And I think there was a reference to the Institute already existing in STRANGE NEW WORLDS.

I wonder what younger people think the phone-handset icon for the calling function on a smartphone is supposed to be. A stylized C for "call," maybe?

No, they're right that it's woke. It's always been woke, and that's a good thing. Woke means awake, aware of reality, enlightened. The only people who define "woke" as a bad thing are those whose power depends on lies and who fear an alert and educated public. The rest of us should embrace it.
