Yes!!! Color is such a powerful force. I’ve studied color theory a long time and just love it 😍

It's been delightful to draw this piece and celebrate the joy that a small, unassuming plant can bring! 🌿💚🌿

I also love decorating my husband with bedstraw. While looking for reference images, I found that I have an extensive catalog of photos of him being covered in this plant over the years, and sometimes both of us, like in this picture 😂❤️

For me it's an absolute delight to stick the plant to people's backs while hiking and to observe how long it takes them to notice (yes, I am a child at heart) 🤣

I'm working on a design featuring ONE OF THE BEST PLANTS EVER. Bedstraw (Galium spp.) is a low-growing plant with little hairs that stick, Velcro-like, to humans and animals (the stickiness is not painful, just sticky!). This helps the plant disperse its seeds far and wide.

🌲Working with local printers! I ship worldwide but they have a smaller footprint in the production stage now.
🌲 Selling at local stores and markets! Although I welcome people from around the world to ROAR with us, I also want strong roots in my local community!

🚫 Paying for Meta ads—due to the company’s use of resource-intensive AI, support of hate speech, and cessation of fact checking.
🚫 Using plastic packaging for card shipments!
🚫 Throwing out paper scraps and plastic strips from adhesive backings—I want to collage them!

Buuut that’s its own giant essay so for now I’ll just say that I want to ensure I’m creating and supporting equitable systems while also reducing my negative impacts while running this business.

Sustainable practices are important to me but I have a lot of complicated feelings re: Earth Day. It can be performative & superficial, especially when people don’t dig into the fraught history of colonization, environmental racism, eugenics, ableism, etc. that are part of modern environmentalism. ⬇️

This changing landscape has recovered in some ways and in some ways was permanently altered, but the waterfall itself has remained constant. It is a good symbol of persistence in the face of adversity, not to mention a beautiful natural feature.
