It definitely is. I think some people are so used to masking and giving the impression that they know what’s going on, it can be hard to know when a patient isn’t understanding
It definitely should be. I think part of the challenge, at least with some folks, is remembering what was discussed during sessions. I know i have that issue.
Sometimes it’s over and if i don’t write down specifics i have know clue what we talked about or what my take-aways were supposed to be.

bc i’m not a therapist & shouldn’t be the one explaining to people how it’s supposed to work
you can’t just go to the appointments and wait for things to improve.
it’s not like taking a weekly dose of medicine that helps you get better, even while you sleep.
that’s not what therapy is at all.
for people seeing a therapist for their mental health for the first time, i think it would be cool if the first session was like Therapy 101: explaining how therapy works, what it can/cannot help with, and how the patient can get the most from it
then get into their specific issues
