Thought I might see a butterfly today but no luck on that front.

Thought I might see a butterfly today but no luck on that front.
Hearing that Sand Martins are also being seen too. Is it really Spring already?...
Had seen reports from Fife over past few days but none from across this side of the Tay, so went out looking today...

Having twitched the White-billed Diver in the Tay on Saturday, I was undecided what to do on Sunday...
Chiffchaffs have made it back to Dundee. Number 105 for my 2026Dundee150 year-list. 2 heard singing this morning at Trottick Ponds, then 2 silent birds this afternoon at Swannie Ponds.

With @lainy.bsky.social finding a White-billed Diver on Friday, off the Stannergate, there was only going to be one place I was headed to early on Saturday morning...

Crossbills at Dundee Law this morning. At least 8 birds. #BirdingScotland
No worries. I did wonder, but it can be difficult to be certain on social media, so I went with the 'sensible answer', just in case.π
It would be surprising. Those listed were the more unexpected species among 90 species I've managed to see/hear on my 'on foot commute'.

The 8th of February wasn't a midweek, it was a Sunday! I've managed to lose track of days with my blog-backlog, so I've amended the title - though the link appears to have stayed the same.

A trip to Broughty Ferry and Balmossie produces a mystery bird...

After a LOT of work this weekend, my "100 Birds To See In Dundee" blog-post has been tidied up & extended.
(More work is still required to give best location pointers & other extra info, when I get more time).

Hopefully it will look a bit more consistent once done.
Call is distinctive, though Coal Tits can have a similar sounding one.
Iβve found a way to fix blog-post but the downside is that I now have to re-caption 400+ photos.
Lot of Siskins around too.
There's been a few more Redpoll around this winter than usual. Even got 1 on the 1st of January. They can be relatively tricky normally, though fairly consistent moving through in small numbers in October(ish).
Latter half was rather rushed. Have a growing back-log of posts to type and photos to sort out, and needed to get past this post, so it went out in current form. I appreciate your checking. I was so frustrated with it I hadnβt looked properly. Lesson learnt.
Yeah, spotted that after replying, have listed those needing fixed. Just trying to work out how. Got a very vague idea, now just got to try to sort it. 30 species (48 pics) to fix.
I see what you mean about the nested deeply thing. Not entirely sure how to fix it, but will hope no-one else notices between now and when I get round to fixing it. Have removed the 5 non-pictured harder to see species.
What does βnested deeplyβ mean? I only have a very vague idea what Iβm doing with the html side of things, Iβm guessing itβs probably a result of some of that stuff?
No worries. Thanks for doing so. Was put together rather haphazardly over course of a few nights and I decided not to bother with a few species between edits.
Awful pics. Taken on 8/2/26 at Broughty Ferry. A large distant diver so I defaulted to Great Northern. Editing pics last week, there appeared to be consistent details that look like White-billed Diver (pale panel on neck/bill shape/tone). Forth WBDs seen on 9th. Was Tay bird maybe around then too?π€

Around 100 or so species of birds that can be found around the city of Dundee (without TOO much effort) by almost anyone.
More in-depth info/locations etc to be added later (link will be shared again at that time).

A wetter than expected trip out saw a change of plan (and direction).

White-billed Diver off Broughty Ferry today (found a week ago by @lainy.bsky.social ). Increasingly goes missing for hours but sporadically shows rather well.

White-billed Diver still lingering in the Tay, off Stannergate, Dundee and at least as far as Broughty Castle, but disappearing for extended peiods now. Some views close up, some further away. Been around at least a week (found on 13th by @lainy.bsky.social).
