The curse of being in a Fantasy romance as the longer lived species has to be memory.
As the centuries pass from when your Human lover died, you remember less & less.
Until one day, you forget what their voice sounded like asking for the salt, because no one records asking for salt.

Honestly, I look at the genres on offer and find the one that speaks to me. The one that has a part of me hidden in it. A fear, a hope, a regret, a longing.
When I find the genre the prompts then become a puzzle of getting them to be both literal and clever.

In "Miss Behaviour" and "I See You, Warchief" there are gunpowder weapons with automatic loading give these Modern Romantasy settings weapons equivalent to our own world firearms.
The differences appear with the firearm culture each species develops due to unique physiology.

They both perform expectations that their world expects of them to find acceptance, to prevent others from reducing or humiliating them.

In "I See You, Warchief" the Supremicist Milita leader uses a set of bolt cutters to try and de-tusk Mara. Before the theft of identity can occur Tristan uses his body to stop and subdue the Miltia Leader.
Leaving Mara to witness her gentle librarian defang the foil.

In "Miss Behaviour" Grant the Human Kept has one conflict scene. His weapons are a carving knife, a pot of boiling water, and his body.
"I See You, Warchief" Tristan uses his body to save Mara and perform retributive justice on a Human Supremicist who threatened Mara's tusks.

Never actually played the Witcher or engaged with the written material in-depth, but what I've seen I always loved how that world followed a materialist lense with high fantasy involved.
Each society built its gender roles on the pre-industrial economies their societies developed in.
Some are more gender fluid in economies not dependent on physical traits or reproductive labour.
Those with more rigid environmental or economic demands developed strict gender norms.
In "Miss Behaviour" Deep Dwarves have leveraged their economic and technological advantage to create a global economy that excludes human led countries.
Maintaining and recruiting humans into being Kept by their Dwarven patrons. With Kept contracts sold and traded amongst companies and Dwarves.
In "I See You, Warchief" the Main PoV Character, Mara, is Lower Class.
Her role is the coordination of Union muscle, Warchief. She plans strikes and leads fights against violent strike breaking.
This allows for conflict within a romance story not centered on miscommunication or mind games.

I wanted to write a story that answered the why that is silent in so much fantasy, and how that answer shaped the world.
I wanted a strong orc union enforcer falling for a giant and gentle human librarian. So I had to answer those whys and made the world actually match the result of the question.
On fallen snow at the end of the day, surrounded by boot prints of people on their way, sits a patch of snow untouched and still, I fortunately have iron will.

This was super hard for me, all my writing is often materially grounded with little magic.
However, I realized it is the chronological scale. Deep Dwarves have made tunnels connecting mountains for over 3000 years, spaning almost all of settled human history. The persistence of that is majestic.
