World Liberty Financial, a company associated with Trump and his family, offers its own stablecoin, USD1, and it recently sought to secure a trust charter under the OCC for an affiliated firm.
The post about the Clarity Act was an abrupt dip into financial policy after Trump spent the last few days overseeing U.S. military strikes against Iran, in what the U.S. government has described as a "special combat operation." The emerging hostilities have disrupted air travel throughout the Middle East, as well as shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Suspected insiders make over $1.2 million on Polymarket ahead of U.S. strike on Iran
The strikes caused bitcoinβs price to fall and oil futures on Hyperliquid to rise over the regional conflictβs consequences.
From my colleagues at CoinDesk: Six Polymarket accounts bought "yes" shares on a Polymarket bet that the U.S. would strike Iran by Feb. 28 in the hours before the strikes began, netting the holders approx. $1.2 million

Crypto Capital Corpβs $850M collapse linked to Israeli mafia cocaine ring
Crypto Capital Corp wound down after $850M was seized sometime between late 2018 and early 2019, but the ramifications continue to be felt.
New story from Protos:
How $850 million seized from Crypto Capital Corp was apparently tied to the Israeli Mafia moving cocaine directly out of Colombia and into Europe, 100 kilograms at a time.

an obliquely overhead view of a Lufthansa 787. much of the fuselage is dark blue, with a large white crane (Lufthansa's logo) on it. the wings of the aircraft are also painted white, and they are aligned with the crane on the fuselage so as to suggest that they are the crane's wings.
i didn't realize until today that Lufthansa's special 100th-anniversary paint scheme deliberately casts the airplane's wings as the wings of the crane. very cool.

Bitcoin Is Crashing So Hard That Miners Are Unplugging Their Equipment
Bitcoin's plunge has made it far less economical to mine the digital token. Some companies are starting to unplug their equipment.
βAccording to Coindesk, the average cost to mine one Bitcoin is currently around $87,000 β far higher than its current going rate, making it an extremely unprofitable proposition.β
The current price of Bitcoin is $64,000. Up slightly from the price cited in the article.

The catch may be in that contract defining a shutdown as based on what the Office of Personnel and Management says; another one that defines a shutdown as Trump not signing a funding bill(s) by midnight has (more correct) 99% chance of funding lapse

US government shutdown Saturday? Betting Odds & Predictions | Polymarket
View real-time odds on "US government shutdown Saturday?" as of January 30, 2026, and trade on The World's Largest Prediction Marketβ’
My understanding of the way Congress works is even if the Senate votes on the funding bills today, the House likely won't pass them until Monday. As a result, the government will technically shut down at midnight and stay closed through the weekend.

π¨ The Senate has agreed to a deal to vote on 5/6 full appropriations bills and replace the DHS funding measure with a 2-week stopgap bill, per multiple sources. That gives time to negotiate on the Dem demands for ICE and CBP restraints.
