I’ve watched *a lot* of Survivor in the lead up Survivor 50 over the past year and I’ve become slowly convinced it’s the great American television programme. A masterclass in production, a microcosm of societal values and systems, and elixir of life for Jeff Probst.

like, give me this kind of fanaticism over p much anything that comes into my brain when i think of fandom

i think there's an interesting throughline of very early players seeking to potentially overcorrect their gameplay bc of assumptions ppl have of OG players coming in (which we already saw play out with jenna)

the entire scene is gold, just everything you could want. there's a lot of great stuff in the ep. a convo between devens & joe is sticking out, as well as a cross-cutting sequence involving christian & aubry

last thing about survivor, for now ahahaha, is that no other fanbase focuses its attention on 'editing' the way the survivor fanbase does. like any fanbase it gets to be overkill, but :marge voice: i just think it's neat to see such attention paid to editing, perspectives, character arc choices, etc

christian crouching underneath joe (whose moral gameplay is a turn-off to his tribemates), like gollum begging for scraps, and then proceeding to **coddle him by gently rocking the hammock** as they talk about trust (with the camera panning to a close-up of his hands), so funny & so illuminating

i was very young when it aired & remember it so clearly. seeing something like that on primetime alongside like 30 million viewers in a form that was exploding was part of it, but they really created something visceral out of it. just visceral, riveting tv

i'm going to be v annoying about survivor 50 while it is airing. reality tv is treated nowhere near the level of understanding or analysis that it should be, it's usually dismissed outright. it's a shame bc it has so much going on. additionally, S50 is in open conversation w/ its own legacy

thinking once again about how survivor is always on the ground thinking about blocking and composition when getting their footage. part of my love for this show is its blocking, no joke. not only is it something they consider & capture in the moment, but they make you feel it

production is absolutely killing it this season so far, i'm enthralled by how impeccably it has been put together
