Any environmental policy supported by DSA should prioritize reorganizing the economy to meet human needs, and heeding scientific ecological limits. Though total material throughput must be reduced, many sectors, such as health, education, clean energy, and housing need additional investment. (4/5)
The material and energy throughput resulting from unnecessary growth, colonialism, imperialism, and unchecked profit-seeking has been the root cause of massive ecological destruction. This has led to planetary warming, biodiversity loss, toxin accumulation, and other threats to planetary life (3/5)
With this resolution, we intend to build on the popular mobilization for an ecological transformation, and affirm DSA’s intention to reverse capitalism’s destructive tendency toward endless economic growth. (2/5)
