I’ve found that it has to be something you like to do, and you MUST be kind to yourself and take it slowly. Accept that it will take time to be anywhere close to where your brain may think your body should be. 2 pushups? Fine, do 3 next time. Walk .5 miles. Do .6 soon. Slow and steady.
Are you sure they aren’t imposters? Maybe checking all their IDs and verifying identities would be in order. You can’t tell with no badges and those masks on. Just sayin.

If it’s a creation aspect then you can keep throwing bread crumbs to them that lead them to their personal quest of solving those mysteries. But they need to turn over a lot of stones to find their bread crumbs, and if helping others prevents it from happening again, they’re all in.
The way I approach my players that may work for this is to have the hook set in the character creation phase officially. Each player has experienced some sort of deep loss that can’t be explained and was not natural at all. Build that into their core creation with some quirk or bonus.

Well, there’s the easy fix of stopping all the current socialist programs we have. Start with transportation. Privatize road construction and upkeep. I’m sure everyone will be just fine playing whatever toll is required to leave their driveway and use the road each and every time.
