Just desk rejected a paper applying parallel serial mediation with a cross sectional sample of <50 participants. I guess that cues my seasonly PSA of NO MEDIATION WITH CROSS SECTIONAL DESIGN. Itβs 2026. No more! Read Maxwell and Cole, 2007, for the year of fire horse pretty pretty please.
New paper w/ @qmmmmliu.bsky.social
Network analysis of LGBTQIA+ parents linking parenting, stigma, & mental health.
Supportiveness, reinforcement, & transphobia were central.
Child psychopathology & parent anxiety bridged domains.

A reminder that Iβm accepting applications for PhD students!
Wasn't that happy with how performance crashed as time points grew, so I dusted off some linear algebra to optimize the calculations. Benchmark showed a ~1Mx speedup using new implementation (with 100 time points) π

How to read data into R from the OSF without losing your mind. reilly-lab.github.io/Jamie_HowOSF...
Title slide for an invited talk at APS in D.C. on 5/24 entitled "Let's be discrete: The utility of episodic and categorical perspectives".
README page from the GitHub page for a new package called 'mitools', which generates sets from categorical data and evaluates those sets for conditional probability and entropy.
Example model depicting different sets and the conditional probability of emotional distress on each set.
Looking forward to an invited talk at APS this month. I'll be discussing estimands, linear models, and set theory, debuting a new R package (w/ @nicolasleenaerts.bsky.social), and sharing some data from an ongoing emotion regulation study that identifies sufficient conditions for emotional distress.
Despite the well-polished workflow of this package, I tried to analyze the βuseless data setβ that comes with it using {mediation}. Treatment and mediator were (strongly) confounded, so we need to pay close attention to the sensitivity analysis!
To understand the devastation for U.S. science right now. Here is how NIH grants work: somebody comes up with a research idea, like a tree sapling NIH invests in the βdirect costβ of that idea, aka buys the sapling Letβs say that sapling is $100
A visualization I created to share with family and friends about how the NIH indirect rate costs will hurt science AND our economy.
