What Hegseth says, like Trump, is all self-serving. Both are not sources for credible information. Having said that, their motives are dark and sinister, and they feel inflicting suffering makes them feel superior. Disfigurement is top on the list for them, a permanent sign of their might.
There's absolutely nothing to be gained in tinkering around the margins. We're not going to make that stuff better - we're not going to make Palantir a bit less evil by making sure the information governance works. We need different kinds of technologies, made by different kinds of people.
Bias in tech is not a mystery. Sure, we can forensically search for unbiased data sets and do ethical evaluations and impact assessments, but the foundational structures of Silicon Valley tech are based on fear of and contempt for everyone who doesn't fit the "People Like Us" template.

What I find interesting about this line is that itβs an admission in order for this to happen, they need you to lose your ordinary intelligence that you already have.
This is why they want to get into schools. They want kids to lose basic capacity so that they have to rent it forever.
Nobody has ever needed to pay for a lot of what this guy wants people to pay for, because they can do it themselves. So these people have to decay that functioning by force, and then they can sell people a sorry substitute for it.
So in the end it's the Gulf Arabs who are powerful enough to stand up to Trump and actually punish him for his criminal incompetence? Not Europe. Not Japan. The Gulf Arabs.

This is the company the UK government has embedded in the nationβs services. Seriously, fuck everyone who is excusing this.
I am old enough to remember the vitriol directed at random humanities scholars' work complaining about the totalizing tendencies of capitalism to corrupt, colonize, or co-opt everything. I also lived long enough to read long term coverage of the literal attempt to privatize thinking in the newspaper
Das ist die misogyne ScheiΓe fΓΌr die Palantir steht und alle, die diese Leute und ihr Unternehmen hofieren & ihr Produkt kaufen, sind Teil davon.

βThere are two things you need to know. The first is that Nigel came home yesterday happier than I have seen him in a long time. The second, and you are not to feel bad about this, is that he died this morning.β
Extremely scary message. Deranged.
Why are European countries still buying services from his company Palantir?
The Gulf defence spending boom that follows this war is going to be quite something.
Fifty year old blokes in gilets are without question the most vulnerable target of radicalisation.
Macro photo of a brown stink bug in face view on a leaf, guarding a tightly-clustered bunch of eggs that are shaped and colored exactly like a full tray of dark beer with foam on top.
Finally, the bug is back with a round of the Guinness.
This is such a crazy headline. Press report that WH aides are at each others' throats over the timing and manner of a declaration of a non-existent victory as the reality of an unwon war rages away.
Right now, we have President Trump (a man) and PM Netanyahu (also a man) and the Iranian regime (a load of men), fighting a pointless war whilst Putin (another man) is bombing Ukraine on the daily...but women's economic and political power is the problem. OK.
We have awarded these people contracts in the Ministry of Defence. What the fuck are we doing.

I love features like this because every single one of these products ALREADY HAS THIS FEATURE, it's called their algorithm and it was the literal foundation of the entire user experience until this point.
The story is "we're doing algorithm again, but slower and worse."

That would be embarrassing. At the very least.
Respect. I have started reporting endless ads foisted on me as pornographic to mess with ad tracking data. Bunions? Porn. Supermarket delivery? Porn.
