The mage agreed to start working on a cure, provided Asher subjected himself to the mages experiments. Seeing no other option to save the princess, Asher agreed, and they were ushered into the Crystal Tower.

Asher had started to lose hope until he saw something he was not expecting. A spire made out of pure crystal. He stood outside the spire, demanding entry and answers, until he was met by a flamboyant mage with a skull face. He explained his plight and demanded a cure for the princess.

Asher had an idea, but asked the court to trust him. He bundled up the princess and set out to find a cure, heading in the direction the darkness that befell them had spread from. That darkness grows thicker, and the princess grows more ill.

Time goes by, and things go smoothly, until a strange darkness sweeps over the land. The princess is affected greatly by this darkness, and falls ill. All the kingdoms doctors and physicians could not figure out the cause.

He quickly rose through the ranks till the royal court took notice of him. Eventually he would be placed as the personal guard to the princess, tasked with keeping her safe, no matter the cost.

Asher "trained" on his own for years until he was finally old enough to enlist in the military where he actually did rather well. The princess had been receiving formal fencing training, and had been passing on what she learned to him, so he had a good basis to learn.

He even went as far to sneak into the castle to watch them train, grabbing a stick and mirroring their movements to train himself. There he met a precocious young girl who he would later discover was the princess. These two became fast friends, even with their differences in standing.
