A photo of Valentino, my cat.
After a hectic several days, an update: she is very much a he. Meet Valentino, not Valentine as previously introduced. Still purring like it's an Olympic sport.

Picture of cat lying on my hand as I type
It's okay, I don't need my hand anyway.

I hope I can give her the best possible life.

So... I got adopted today. Meet Valentine, my new owner. She purrs like a chainsaw.

Project DIY audiobook is underway. I'm excited and also terrified.

Best to be safe ๐
The journey to final drafts always comes with awesome file names ๐
Does anyone else save like 3 million backups of their manuscripts or is it just me?

I've been gathering quotations for printing my book.
I am tired.

I'm a huge fan of accessibility. Shoutout to Simon Sansol who not only translated his book from French to English (I know zero (0) French), but also shared it for free. If you have some time, check out his dystopian story. I enjoyed it, you might too ๐

AI is really doing the heavy lifting these days. Scams used to have some pretty obvious typos and grammar errors. These days they're almost flawless.
Of course, the story picks up pace, but you have to travel with him. My main character is leaving his village to a university in the city. I don't drop him into chaos for the lolz. The journey there and back is what matters. #writesky #writing #booksky
A photo of rural Kenya
Years ago when I was querying my manuscript, a lovely literary agent told me, "Your writing is good, but the chapter opens too slowly. Pick up the pace, grip the reader." Yeah, no. Just look at this photo. This is where I live. This is rural Kenya. Slow life is the default setting. #writesky
Are you a Disney princess?
And it's much better than doing nothing at all.
The Three Laws of Art. 1. Create: the worst it can do is suck. 2. Create again: bad art happens to good artists. 3. Just create: art is cheaper than therapy. From Coldstone Press 2015.
I was looking for a sign for this new month. This is it.

If you have thick skin, you'll love it. I'm kinda made of jitters so ๐ฅฒ
Maybe you like to live dangerously? ๐

But... What's the alternative?
(obviously not the deepfake part, just to be clear)
I found this so fascinating that I'm totally going to do it. #writesky friends, have you/would you serialize your audio book?

I'm very new to Pinterest. I had no idea this was possible. Will definitely make more.

Word of mouth, TV shows, movies, articles from NYT or the Atlantic... Yes, I'm old ๐ง
TIL that "publisher" in my country (Kenya) basically means "printer". They don't care about what you do with your books. Lots of authors are sitting with cartons of their work because they don't know about distribution. I'm not making that mistake. #writesky #booksky
Ahh, that's where I'm stumbling a bit. I rarely find my next reads on the socials. I'm learning how that whole world works.
