At one point, she started to claimed to be a widow, but there's no evidence she married & her surname didn't change. Her partner eventually married a woman like 30 years younger than him. I have my own confusing/abusive/not-ideal relationship stories. I wanna know hers. #Genealogy

Also, about my answer to which ancestor I'd want to ask a question to: I want to clarify that my Esther Thomas was a single mother. She had 3 kids with the same man & never married or lived with him (based on the records I have). In every record she lived with her kids in the family home. #Genealogy

I hope all my #Genealogy friends are contacting their politicians to oppose their participation in the US&Israel's war. If we really believe everyone should have access to their family history, we must oppose the displacement of millions of people, bombing of schools, & this horrific violence.

Just so you know, I tried to click on the manorial records link, but it took me to a broken page. Might be an issue on my side, but just in case :D

I'd love for there to be an end to the US & Israel bombing everyone. I hope that day comes soon. The US's threats to my own country make me scared for the future. Here's an anti-war poem from my family history research on Llanfihangel Ystrad, 1798. #Genealogy www.youtube.com/shorts/Voai2...

Hehe nice. I think today I'm going to work a bit on one of my more difficult branches. I do still find researching my urban, poor ancestors pretty challenging. Maybe I'll learn some tricks to it hopefully

Yeah, that'll happen. There's lots of strategies to manage it though. Not all hope is lost!

I do find that breaking up my tree into different categories works well though. Do I want to work on my literate farmers? My blacksmiths? My poor industrial workers? What obstacles do I want to encounter today? What kinds of records am I up for?

I definitely struggle with this. I've started to keep a list of my cool finds because I've been finding myself going, "Oh I wanna work on that really cool thing again," & not being able to remember what it was. Haven't figured out how best to choose what to work on yet though. #Genealogy

Very cool. Yeah these connection are farther back than I'll ever get with the documentation. It is a big tease that they're all white people with colonial ancestry in the southern US and this DNA kit is from someone mostly descended from enslaved black people in Jamaica.

MyHeritage chromosome browser showing 7 long segments that all triangulate

MyHeritage chromosome browser showing 7 long segments that all triangulate

Thanks. I read a few things on "pile up" which was helpful. What I still am not getting is that the things I read say that the problems with pile up is when the segments are like less than 7cM. These are much longer. I just put them all into the viewer & they all triangulate which surprised me.

#Genealogy DNA question: Can someone point me to info on the significance of multiple people sharing a long single segment of DNA & how to use that in methods? I'm looking at 8 people with low overall shared DNA, but they all share 37-51 cM of the same segment of DNA. Is that useful? #DNA

I've finally got my hands on some DNA results! Very exciting. Only 13 matches over 90cM, but hopefully I can figure out where my friend's grandfather came from! #Genealogy

A "No AI" symbol with text beside reading, "100% human-made"

I've added a new tag to all of my blog posts to remind readers that everything I do is 100% made by me. I research it. I write it. I edit it. I don't use AI at all. So you'll find no soulless, empty work on my website, only things that I worked hard at cause I thought they were important. #Genealogy

Nice! I had that happen on an 1881 Census, which was great because it was an ancestor who had moved to London!
