Loved this poem of yours. And Millfield! My husband was working there when I met him. Of course, it will always be known for its mine disaster...but also great peepers. :)

my window
open just a crack
as i roll up and down
on crackling gravel
sipping a taste of coal smoke
spiraling into a thin sky
as evening air turns blue brittle
seeping into the fractured remains
of the old Millfield tipple

Driving to Dairy Queen
with my daughter
through the ruralest
parts of southeast Ohio
before the time change
and after the flooding
so that it's 7:13 and
dark as midnight
but the moon
is a schoolgirl
with mud on her hands.
And suddenly we hear them:
spring peepers
everywhere
and everywhere
spring
Oh my gosh, Bru! What a nightmare. I'm so sorry you had to go through that, and I really hope your recovery goes well. On a less serious note...we missed you! π

It's infuriating.
51 school girls killed this morning for these fools' war games.
"operation epic fury"
the blood of innocents
on children's hands
another war
to make small men

My little space nerd heart was geeking out with you! π Loved it! π

"Have fun" is the lesson that I needed twenty years to learn.

I'm working on
I've convinced the world
it's spring
Snowy mountain, blue sky, a ghost of a cloud, spruce trees in the foreground
under a blue sky
her quiet house
