All I wish personally for the new year is more dopamine and less burnout..
I can't wait until the trend with heavy perfumes are gone and I don't feel like some is punching me in my brain everytime I go into shop
.
Interestingly (to me anyway) this is an increasingly important part of my work, preserving websites that are due to vanish from lack of funding, labs shutting down, etc.
For the Holiday, what a great time to check out TOTAL REPLAY, a years-long project to make hundreds of Apple II games easy to boot up, play, and discover. It even works on original Apple II hardware (with a little modern trickery). Emulated in Browser, of course:

Thomas Walskaar interviewed me for his first Dead Web Club Podcast episode.
Listen to us yapping about reclaiming digital agency, unsexy extinct elephants (talking about you, Mastodon!) and carrying your digital front door to a birthday party.

I really want to continue using a browser like Firefox, but I'm having more and more issues with website bugs. I am afraid our decade-long friendship might be coming to an end.
I really wish sometimes I did not have 246000 different hobbies and interests and was one of the people who only had one or two hobbies. Instead of burning out on trying to fit them all in my "spare time"
with so much online "anti w00k3 rage" there is now about the new Superman movie, it's a clear sign it's probably pretty decent fun movie... πΏ

Some irony in that multiple engineers/computer scientists have confidently told me that the solution to our universityβs budget crisis is to βclose the humanities and social sciences.β
This is, of course, silly; all disciplines are critical and important.

A stock photo of two people doing business on a staircase.
Two dudes standing around a watercooler, presumably having a 'watercooler conversation' about last night's Seinfeld or whatever.
A woman reclining in a chair in a business suit with her shoes off.
A guy in a suit on a city street doing some damn business on a cell phone. The business never stops!!!!!
Today I discovered that people have been uploading old stock photo CD-ROMs to the Internet Archive and now I'm obsessed with the mid-'90s business-core aesthetic.
Corn Thresher Spam is back, baby
They have no honour in adhering to already agreed contracts for funding, so expect to lose it, even if previously awarded.

Sometime I think about the small group of kids going around putting up Kony2012 in the small town Nordics I was living in at the time..
I'm continually impressed how much yeoman's work the Bitsavers Collective (which is really a couple folks) is putting into scanning and providing from computer documentation realms. Here's all they've added in the last month:

2018 feels so long again, but 2012 feels so recent for me. It's weird how time and memory do the trick..

David Lynch as Gordon Cole in Twin Peaks
RIP, David Lynch. Truly one of the great weirdoes in film and television history.
