This passage of Cosmos came to mind while I was watching Pete Hegseth strut across the stage at the Pentagon yesterday.
New #MouseGuard sketchbook debuting at # ECCC booth 26009: ‘Past Whereabouts’
So I probably can't pitch him Banner of Granada, my alt-history sci-fi movie set in a post-nuclear Britain divided into warring kingdoms named after the old ITV regions.
Yes, a different warlord rules London at Weekends.
Logo for Central Pictures
Logo for Central TV
One for defunct ITV franchise nerds - Josh Safdie's new production company is called Central Pictures, and for reasons I can't establish, the logo is the same as the old Central Television logo. Spotted it on the opening of "If I Had Legs I'd Kick You".

I want to believe this SO badly. So badly that my normal ability to spot jokes has ceased functioning.
Tell me it's true.
well, today in floridly depressing news: the French helpline for female victims of male violence is facing "coordinated" attacks from men's rights activists, who keep calling up in the hope of making it harder for women to reach their services
FT comments section this morning - saying what everyone else is thinking, right?
Also, referring to Exorcist 2 purely but its subtitle and attributing it to Frankenheimer no Boorman. If I were marking an undergraduate assignment with errors that sloppy present, it might not get a passing grade,
What's the book you're reading?
A misconception that still crops up in supposedly properly researched academic texts. There's a book from this decade, from the press of a very well known University, which repeats that same lie.
That trailer is so horrendously unfunny. No jokes that land but lots of things to affirm the biases of middle-aged right-wingers. It looks like one of those Daily Wire movies.
Today in imaginary films I wish existed - I was explaining the fractious working dynamic between Gerry & Sylvia Anderson to a student, and she suggested a remake of Scenes from a Marriage, but following the Andersons during the production of this.

Normally, trying to remake long-running American comedy series for other markets fails spectacularly, but Ireland's version of the Westboro Baptist Church will probably run for longer than the original.
Here's what'll happen: the UK economy is about to collapse. A snap election will drive Britain into the arms of Reform. They will rename themselves Norsefire. But the mutated product of an experiment, named "V" will wage guerilla war on the fascists, before his young female successor blows up No 10.
I remember trying to recreate shots from Bad Taste and Evil Dead 2 on Super 8. I did kinda nail the force in the woods POV shots, but you'll have to take my for that now.
I did my BA thesis on Raimi's films and had to secure phone interviews with Raimi and his collaborators. Campbell very patiently answered my questions and provided new avenues for me to consider.
Long live the King.
I feel Paddington would be really into the warm humanism and absurd comedy of Aki Karasmaki.
Recommended for anyone whose work/hobby etc involves any kind of storytelling, even if it has nothing to do with comedy.
Okay if fucking Trump outlasts Bruce Campbell I'm fighting god barefoot in a Waffle House parking lot.
Mom, come pick me up, the best lack all conviction and the worst are full of passionate intensity.
One of the greatest, Bruce Campbell, announcing he has cancer. Our hearts are with you Bruce, Hail to the King.
Ethically & altruisticly speaking, if *I* was a billionaire so fucking concerned about human procreation, I would put a lot of money into ensuring no novel stress induced epigenetic changes occur that could lead to the next generation being born with class consciousness & possibly super powers
The plot for the unmade 4th Jake Gittes mystery would have been set in the early 80s and would have hinged on the real life conspiracy to build LA on Rock'n'Roll illegally stolen from farmers in central California.
It's very much in sympathy with his onscreen persona. So yeah, something they could definitely lean into.
For all of you concerned about your holidays 🙄
Yes, he's sitting on a guy's lap. Shattering all my complicated childhood theories about that illusion. I'm assuming things like that were even easier to get away with on NTSC. In PAL territories like Ireland our TVs had a 100 extra lines of resolution.
Oh, the many things we missed in the era of standard def and shiny telecine transfers. Have you seen Knight Rider in HD? The mystery of how did they get KITT to drive itself away after the Hoff hops out seems to be, he was sitting on the knee of a stunt driver disguised as the driver's seat.
Need a delightful distraction from all that 2026 that's going on? Well then, enjoy this life-affirming compilation of Peter Tork mouthing all the other Monkee's lines.
