In law school, we organized a symposium commemorating Stonewall at 25, brought LGBTQ+ leaders to campus, and published pieces on LGBTQ+ rights. As a mom, I brought my kids to visit the Stonewall Inn to learn about the history of civil rights that started there. Nice to see the flag flying proudly.🏳️🌈

No Kings. ICE out. Not on our watch. Meeting government-sponsored violence and killings with massive peaceful protest. Celebrating the beauty of our communities as America the way we can and should be.
In contrast, the way hundreds of thousands of people from the most targeted cities—LA to Chicago, DC to Portland to Minneapolis—have refused to give this admin what it wants is astounding. People showing up, blowing whistles, singing, praying, holding hands, linking arms.
Resharing something I wrote last summer (link below), when the reign of terror of this federal admin was in full swing. Since then, I took my other kid to Death Valley in December. And the brutal attacks on immigrants have expanded dramatically and their violence has escalated.
As the federal administration’s brutality and racism continue to escalate, I joined Robert Reich to say: attacking immigrant workers doesn’t help American-born workers. Protecting vulnerable workers improves standards and safety for everyone no matter where they were born.
As the federal government shows brutality that knows no bounds, NYC says not on our watch.

The Canarsie Public Library in Brooklyn was first built in the 1960s in a renovated former supermarket. Now it’s going to be expanded to match the needs, ambitions, and dreams of the neighborhood. In the 19th century, Canarsie was a free Black community. That makes it extra special that the groundbreaking of the library expansion happened during Black History Month. Libraries teach history, preserve memory, build community, protect the full American story and keep it alive. This is all the more important when the federal administration practices racism, denies history, and is hell-bent on destroying community.

Important article by Chris Brooks about @uaw.org’s 1st contract with VW in Chattanooga, TN. I remember when the workers first voted to unionize. They saw the power of a union because of UAW’s history-making contract with the Big 3. Congrats to these workers for showing the way in the South!

But much of our focus was on prepping to keep New Yorkers safe during the snowstorm. Thank you to all the sanitation workers & emergency responders, taxi & delivery drivers, healthcare & retail workers, those who clear and salt the snow, repair broken water pipes, and all who keep cities running.
Week 3. This week we protected consumers from hidden hotel junk fees, beat back a lawsuit by DoorDash and Uber to weaken driver protections (the law is meant to stop these cos. from taking $550 million in tips through app manipulation), and got the word out about 3-K and pre-K registration.
