…I've said it so many fucking times, now, but I'll say it again, that it's really fucking messed up that all of these conversations seek to apply to fucking LLMs a standard of personhood we still don't consistently and meaningfully apply to other fucking humans.

Really kind of morally offensive how much contempt these people have for curiosity.

I think we need people to start listening to new experts that said this many years ago

Saw a thoughtful thread about AI, don't want to QT or argue. But. The biggest rage factor with LLMs is the people who, because genAI is transformative for coding, think it's transformative for everything else, because they devalue every other form of work and labor and knowledge.

This is one of my biggest pet peeves. There is ZERO reason why a machine that SHOULD BE COMPLETELY MECHANICAL needs to be connected to the Internet.

Funny, this. I am just now writing the final section of my chapter on "Showing Our Stuff," in which I describe in great detail the long-term harm that comes to students when they allow gen-AI to do the info-gathering, conceptual organization, or writing for their essays and term projects.

I have literally no patience for anyone saying that trans Kansans "just" have to go to the DMV and get a new license. There was no time given for that. There was no process in place for that. There were letters sent out to some people whose licenses were invalidated, but not all.
