I also had 5 siskin outside in the alder trees by Valley Creek hide this morning. I seem to be seeing more redshank too.

Fantastic views of EIGHT great northern divers off Dudney hide Grafham. Personal record. @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social
My first instinct is this isn't a good move for the nature reserve. If it can't be monetised I don't think they have much incentive to invest. So I predict neglect, hopefully it will be benign.
Good day around Grafham, first time all the way round with the scope. Only saw one of the Great Northern Divers, other highlights 3 Bewicks still around, 6 Siskin, Raven, 1 common and 3 green sands, and a Nuthatch. 62 species in total, a record for me! @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social
Quick lunch time walk at Grafham rewarded me with a lot of ducks, a couple of Great White egrets and good views of two Black Tailed Godwits from Valley Creek...but they were the only waders seen @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social
Egrets, grafham harbour
Argh, went the other way - 2 ringed plover and 9 great egrets from Mander and a greenshank from Dudney. Quite a few wigeon and pintail around
It certainly was! They used yield and weatther data from the Rothamsted Broadbalk long-term wheat experiment
Cancelled my OpenAI subscription, and taken out a subscription to the @theguardian.com instead. #feelgoodfriday
Not sure it's the best way, but I guess it's one way to top up #Grafham water @anglianwater.bsky.social (leak has been reported!)

Winning hackathon team photo
We had a cracking weekend for the first @rothamsted.bsky.social #data hack. Great entries from the teams and somethings for us to think about on how we present our data! The winning team developed a data explorer for the long-term experiments, with potential to customise for different stakeholders.

The teams are knuckling down for the final 5 hours of the @rothamsted.bsky.social #data hack. Emerging themes around data visualisations to illustrate complex long-term data combing yields, weather and insect data.
In all the excitement I neglected to post anything yesterday about the @rothamsted.bsky.social #data #hackathon at the Royal Agricultural University! I ledt one team working past midnight, and now they're all tucking into breakfast ready for a few more hours coding. Lokking forward to the results!
I think i may have seen it on my run yesterday evening. About 5.30pm, shore at south end of dam. Very squat looking bird then flew off towards Gaynes - white wings and dusky body
Cracking wader morning at #Grafham, 2 curlew sandpiper, 2 little ringed plover, common sandpiper, ruff and dunlin from Mander/valley creek. 2 spotted sandpiper, 4 greenshank, 1 common sandpiper plus a couple of pintail from Littleless Creek. But Dudney was empty! Scope video of the Green and Spotted
Forget AI, one massive productivity gain would be people using #MSWord headings correctly. Reviewing an 84 page doc without simple navigation is a sod.
Makes sense
Any ideas what this is. I'm guessing sone sort of sensor? Screwed in to an oak, the top has a metal pin enclosed by a spring. @richardkbroughton.bsky.social
Saw one of the black-wits yesterday morning plus the pink foot, was trying to find the wood sandpiper but no luck
I'm now timing my runs to end when the heatpump comes on for some outside aircon ๐ฅต
What's the true value of a hedgerow? Or a diverse landscape when it comes to mitigating field edge yield declines? Our new paper out today might have some of the answers doi.org/10.1016/j.ag...
I think a lot of science has a lot of #data management debt
Interested in #agdata? Then join us at the @rothamsted.bsky.social data hackathon using the rich long-term data from our Long-term experiments, North Wyke Farm Platform and Insect Survey @rothamsted-lte.bsky.social, @thefarmplatform.bsky.social www.tickettailor.com/events/rotha...
Here are a couple more pics of the same bird, all taken on my phone through my scope. If I remember right it didn't have tuft like the one in pic. I think the pics bear that out but the quality isn't great
Hi Mark, yep, checked my notebook and 4th May was when I saw it.
Lad's done his background research!
Thanks both, guessed as much, and certainly a striking combination of features!
Brown tufted duck? With a red bill? Grafham Water @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social
