⚡ Contrasting futures:
- Northern Patagonia: up to 50% reduction in dry-season river flows by 2100
- Southern Patagonia: runoff may increase 10–25%, but peak flows shift from summer → spring 🌞❄️

We developed a hybrid model combining: Neural networks 🤖 and glacier models 🧊. This allowed us to simulate river flows in ~2,200 glacier-influenced catchments, including areas with little data. #MachineLearning #GlacierModeling

Western Patagonia hosts some of the world’s most pristine freshwater ecosystems. Glaciers act as natural water buffers, especially during dry seasons. Understanding how rivers will respond to warming is crucial for people and ecosystems. 🌱💦

Very happy to start my FWO-funded postdoctoral fellowship today, working with @harryzeko.bsky.social , Jordi Bolibar, and @marit-vantiel.bsky.social. Our project will explore how glaciers buffer streamflow droughts worldwide 🌊🌍 and how this role may change under what-if scenarios🔥🧊.
