Book cover of Behind Our Backs: Feminized Poetry and Capitalist Abstraction by Amy De'Ath
Behind Our Backs is out!
"In this brilliant study of social forms, De'Ath shows how a surprisingly speculative strain of contemporary poetry explores unseen connections between the domination of value and the process of feminization."

How Brothel Workers in Nevada Just Made Labor History
The courtesans at Sheriβs Ranch were staring down a horrifying new contract. So they did what workers everywhere do: They got organized.
When faced with a shockingly exploitative new employment contract that wouldβve forced them to sign away their IP, their likeness rights, and their power of attorney, Jupiter Jetson and her coworkers at Sheriβs fought backβfast.
They organized a union in SIX DAYS. www.thenation.com/article/econ...

the republican party line is, fairly explicitly, "we will kill your children if you don't vote for us because we know you won't kill our children if we don't vote for you," and the appropriate response to the existence of such a political party is to outlaw it

In the Fight Against ICE, Kids Are on the Front Lines
From tear gas attacks to violent abductions, we are collectively witnessing the mass-scale abuse of children. Young people are fighting back.
Young people, as always, are showing up for the most urgent political strugglesβand a lot of adults need to learn from them. I wrote about the stakes of intergenerational solidarity against ICE.

In the Fight Against ICE, Kids Are on the Front Lines

Appreciate this piece as younger generations are both targeted and also making the path
"Children are not figures of innocence for political rhetoric, or ββbaitβ for federal agents to use in hunting down parents. Young people are not just a part of our struggles, but at the forefront of them."

Israel used weapons in Gaza that made thousands of Palestinians evaporate
US-made thermal weapons burning at 3,500C caused 2,842 people to "evaporate" in Gaza, Al Jazeera investigation finds.
βFour of my children just evaporated,β Badran said, holding back tears. βI looked for them a million times. Not a piece was left. Where did they go?β
There are no words to adequately describe the evil here.

another thing about AI-enabled research is that academics in secure jobs will say this is economic exigency: "funding for humanities research is drying up so I might as well use this instead"
the earlier research on which we established our careers was supported by paid grad students

ICE detainees from Maine being held under βinhumaneβ conditions in Mass. facility, attorneys say
An Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesperson said the allegations of overcrowding and lack of access to lawyers are false.
Concentration camps: stories of as many as 50 people to a cell β men and women in some cases β with no windows and limited airflow, a single camera-monitored toilet, aluminum blankets, no showers and poor quality food.
