Here’s our blog post about it

BIRD creators have made a few models that kick players from the game. These got popular and kicked many players
Now we have tech that automatically identifies these models and decreases their rank in the model browser

Nice!
The Takeover may be over but now the most exciting part of it begins: My review of every game that took part in it.
It does not paint the devs in a good light.

Not saying anything about that particular tweeter. In general I see and personally experience many creative ideas that never see the light of day because the hurdle to publish a game is so high. Integrating an idea into an existing game is a lot easier
Yes. So many people have creative ideas for interactive digital content but can’t share them by publishing a full game. Why don’t more people share their ideas by making smaller content, like game mods? I don’t know, but I hope those channels develop more. More Steam Workshop, Roblox, Fortnite, MC…
i dont really see myself as a game dev, i feel more like an amorphous cloud that pokes at stuff until it forms into something

happy birthday stiltville!
Creating a model save/load system. Probably having too much fun messing around with it by inserting too much of a thing.

This is a recreation of the Roblox “Survival The The Killer” genre out of 10+ community models placed at specific locations
Today birds can publish models. What if they could also publish arrangements of models?
I also remember 2007 Roblox was heavily focused on remixing content. That worked great, and most people loved it. Stealth Pilot was famous for creating the best planes, and they proliferated as Free Models enabling tons of interesting places
Derivations benefit
- The person making the derivation, who may be new to creation and need an interesting base idea or implementation to start from
- Players, who get more content to play with
- The original creator, who gets credit (via back-link on derived model page) and now robux
You can also request copies of your model be taken down. However, we added revenue share as an alternative option because derivations can actually benefit everyone.
You can now get additional Robux from players using copies of your model
I'm glad to see BIRD's trend of distributing more robux to more creators while also distributing it more evenly! This is happening automatically as more birds are getting better at making models
I like the sounds when you type! I made a similar Roblox plugin

That’s wild!
99% of advice on Roblox Engine performance is urban legend
Yet there are plenty of similar games with 1k CCU. There must be a way to grow BIRD 10x and give the Model makers a bigger audience and earnings
It feels like BIRD is stuck in a local maxima. It has 100 CCU. Optimizations to the Models system alone won’t impact regular players that much, so can’t grow the game more than 2x…
We shipped many BIRD Models features a year ago. Now I’m mostly fixing and optimizing them. Creators rely on the system
@c0de517e.bsky.social ‘s article is insightful for multi year projects

That’s interesting. Can you share a screenshot?
Currently BIRD and BIRD Sandbox are rated 9+, “Mild Violence and Fear” on Roblox.
We’ve marked 41 out of 4,582 models as too mature for our current games. We might allow them in a 13+ game some day
