Outlived 8 siblings, her Mum & Great Grandfather both lived to their mid-90s but don't know of any others living longer. She lived alone until she was 99½, had fall ended up in hospital and then to a home. Used to call her often back then as she liked updates on the family tree 😁

Lily Canning age 95 about to do a DNA test

A sad day today, my Great Aunty Lily was 103 last week & sadly passed away today. Always harder to add death dates to the tree for those you know.

I saw her last in 2019 and the year before she did a DNA test after telling everyone at a family party she was going to spit in a pot.

And in the case of indexing on Ancestry.

🚩newer indexes for documents like parish registers appear to be all AI and very badly done. Clearly no checks.

Best method is to go back to basics & go though the books page by page, like to old days on Microfiche.

Snippet from a 1570s Manorial Court roll

Well hopefully a successful day at the archives. I won't know how successful until I've deciphered the Manorial Court Rolls I photographed from the 1570s.

So hoping I can find a connection to the family I have Wills & Deeds for from the 1600s onwards.

Loads more to go but currently 2 trees. Mine and one further back in time I'm trying to connect. Lots of Yeoman farmers in the 1600s/1700s one left 94 sheep plus cowes & pigs. Mine i'm seeing Brickmakers going back to mid-1770s & husbandry. Plenty of money, some land & some leases.

This #OnePlaceWednesday no time for my official OPS but lots of transcribing of Wills from Great Bedwyn. Life is all about planning my @ihgs.bsky.social Diploma projects at the moment. Fingers 🀞 that this research leads me to what I hope it does.

@ainedonnghaile.bsky.social & @davelifelines.bsky.social have a look at the Ancestry transcription I shared earlier today. A page of baptisms transcribed as Burials. The record I was after didn't even have correct date or father's name.

Might try one tomorrow. Been scouring the family tree for another project idea for the Diploma and failing. Need some inspiration πŸ˜„

Yep and considering the disaster that is Ancestry transcriptions these days just increase the number of family trees full of nonsense.

I hate it too. If you click the image it will take you to it. Ancestry needs to beta test changes as they generally just make things worse when they make them.

Just been looking for AGRA podcasts on other places other than Apple, found on Podbean. Need inspiration and a House History maybe a good choice. Still looking for more ideas for the IHGS Diploma.

It never will be should always be checked by a real person. It's great as a time saver but that's about it.

28.01.2026 16:03 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Most these days are unchecked AI transcriptions. Hampshire records are the worst set of transcriptions I've seen in general. Wiltshire are generally not as bad. This one though is just a joke.

Definitely very sad and I looked at a book of Wiltshire Coroners Bills for 1752-1796 after and the Coroner said it was because of Lunacy and charged Β£2 1s. Bill seems rather a lot when the cause of death was clearly obvious.

Well I know Ancestry transcriptions are awful but this is a first. A whole page of baptisms transcribed as burials. Jane daughter of William Walter, bur. 10 Feb 1582 instead of Jane Walter daughter of Thomas Walter, bap. 17 Apr 1583.

An unexpected discovery this morning in the #GreatBedwyn Parish Registers. This entry is for on of my 7 x Great Grandfathers. I won't type the cause of death but the Vicar added it clearly to the burial record.

I was born in Andover, lived here most of my life but only just noticed the plaque on the wall of the museum πŸ˜‚. I knew that the museum was the old Grammar School though.

Maybe because I'm looking for inspiration as the IHGS Diploma starts soon my eyes & ears are open to everything.
