The biggest stumbling block we have to social change in the US is a cultural tendency to defer to power. We expect other people—specifically, those already in power—to save us.
We can change a lot just by taking stock of the power we have ourselves and living the values we wish everyone had.

A 13-year-old opened a hot dog stand in front of his home in Minnesota, causing a complaint to the health department.
Instead of shutting him down, the inspectors helped him bring his stand up to code and paid the $87 fee for his permit out of their own pockets.

We are continuing with a hybrid model for 2023: Produce in the Parking Lot on 2nd Sundays, Produce in the Park on 4th Sundays. No forms to fill out or questions asked. We strive for equity at all of our distributions. Food is a variety of fresh fruit, vegetables, prepared deli foods, dairy, and bakery items, depending on that week's donations. We will distribute food as long as supplies last. For details on the next event, please follow Longmont Food Rescue on Facebook. We create a Facebook event for every public food distribution, listing the location, day, time, and other pertinent information. Events take place year-round in rain/shine/snow – any weather! 20yrs ago we had to evict a scammer. Now I come back to the city and this guy is at every city council meeting and they treat him like an old hippie hero. They don't know how many times he has been evicted. He is an old civil rights guy who scams roommates. Sigh.

Chicken chili for the homeless. Just dishing it out. Those 5$ roasted chickens make chicken chili for 30 easier than it used to be.
I got to sort iceberg lettuce at the food bank today. Some heads were edible, some were dripping slime balls. When a box flap covered in lettuce slime flaps, it flings lettuce slime everywhere. It was my lucky day day, none got in my eyes or mouth. And we had lettuce for taco night.
