Well, I got commissioned to write a piece on a nearby seaside town today, so it's not all bad at least. Haven't posted any photographs for a while, so here you go!

Quite the payoff

A 3d rendered image using Blender, Vue, and then painted with Corel Painter. The image was inspired by an abandoned electrical facility dam in Anyox, British Columbia. In the image, a simple two story box of a building, windows and doors long gone missing along with the roof, stands on top of a rock island that has been carved into isolation by the river that splits to surround it. A big old pine tree is growing straight up through the empty shell of a building. An old rope bridge hangs broken off one side. The image is overall dark and misty, but the building is lit by a shaft of sunlight peeking through the fog and heavy cloud cover. Deep forests in the background recede into the mist. The river rejoins in the foreground to create a quiet pool that feeds multiple smaller falls, one is shown in the very near foreground at the bottom of the image. The clouds are fluffy and light at the top of the image, and there is a tonal gradient toward dark blues, grays and greens around the slower moving water at the bottom of the image. My intention was to show resilience, independence, and defiance as the building stands on and protects the tree.
