On a (rare) windless night like I experienced, the entire world was on mute. Not a sound. No animals or bugs, save for the faint yips of coyotes far away at one point.
The loudest noises come from your footsteps and your own body. A whisper pierces the silence.

Its serene, peaceful, and unnerving.

If you ever find yourself in Vegas or southern CA, i highly recommend driving out to Death Valley for stargazing.

The stars fill the sky so densely it looks like glittering sand. The milky way casts faint diffuse shadows.
A full moon feels more like daylight.
