@jeffnoon.bsky.social called it "A brilliant exploration of technologyβs strange new borderlands." And that guy knows genre-blending creepiness! (Vurt, anyone?)

Full cover of A Fragile Thing. Back is black and white version of front. Front shows a caped figure walking away from view against a backdrop of tall gothic buildings. A golden glow from lights spill out against the dark night. Blurb on back: Victorian London. Isaac Bercow is a man with great aspirations, nothing to lose, and an offer he can't refuse. Determined to make society notice - and believe in - his powers of mesmerism, Isaac finds himself caught in a trap of deceit, danger, and diabolical dealings. The mind is a fragile thing, and fragile things are easily broken.
Thank you! This was fun, even with the slugs π
Pre-order is up for my new gothic horror, A Fragile Thing.

Cover of Revolve by Kimberly Davis Basso (horror shorts, Door Volume II). Inverted glass marble reflecting an inverted wave on a beach in shades of blue. Cover of Next Door by Kimberly Davis Basso underwater infinity door with a woman swimming up towards the surface. The words Welcome to the Neighborhood float above the waves.
Thanks Erin! Since weβre talking wildlife today, my collection Next Door has tentacled terrors and earwigs by the thousands, and Revolve includes many critters in those stories, like the lovely, meaty snails I mentioned. πππ.

Phengaris, surrounded by a symmetrical pattern of butterflies and beetles
Thanks, Eryn. LOVED this topic.
Phengaris, takes its title from a very innocuous little blue butterfly, which parasitizes ants in a fiendishly inventive way.
A great deal of the horror is about arthropods, but also the ways humans can parasitism each other. #HorrorWritersChat

#HorrorWritersChat in the mood for something Gothic this spring? How about a story about a maid who goes to work for a mad scientist? Think Frankenstein and Crimson Peak had a baby together. Available in paperback, ebook and audio book.

The cover for The Shadows That We Carry - the #HorrorWritersChat horror anthology. The image is a campfire out of control; a smiling face beaming contently amidst the flames

Also on the animal theme, I've been writing a lot of strange animal documents over on Tumblr, like this one: www.tumblr.com/arctipline/8...

Thanks for the great questions, Eryn. Love a creature feature!
With the theme in mind I'd like to showcase my short story The Ritual: www.patreon.com/posts/ritual...
The image showcases the animal phobia in play, haha.
This story is free to read and getting a sequel soon!

Not abnormal cat behavior, we're just not normally on the menu.
#HorrorWritersChat Q4:
I know it's there. Waiting in the shadows behind me. I have to keep walking as if I don't know, though. That would give away the game. And if I try to run, I won't reach the nearest house in one piece.
I just have to play along. The cat wants me to notice it.
Ouph, it's funny how you forget that feeling, then it all comes back to you. Yeah, I love dogs, but a random mean dog encounter alone can be very scary.
They would be great because you start by having them move snail slow, then they start dragging themselves forward... π
For me, it's that hissing noise some of them make. Absolutely blood chilling.
More of a D&D thing, but I love a monstrous giant snail! The flail snail is one of the best things ever made.

#HorrorWritersChat Q3:
Probably a swarm of something insectile. But not for the normal reasons.
Most mammals kill their prey efficiently. They have tactics and go for the throat, etc. Insects would eat you in many small bites and could incapacitate you long before killing you, assuming they do...

For me, it's the idea of getting injured, grabbed, then dying badly, buried in the sand. Who knows how long that would take!
