New out in @royalsocietypublishing.org - Doesπ‘-dependent development in π¦ have a mitochondrial basis? Cold-incubated chicks reduced growth+mito volume+respiration, but ATP-efficiency was higher and thermal sensitivity less. At hatching, π₯Ά chicks compensated by upping mito volume.

#OnThisDay in 1610, Galileo Galilei recorded the first mention of Jupiter's moons. At first thinking them to be fixed stars near the gas giant, his later observations revealed them to be orbiting Jupiter. Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto are now known as the Galilean moons.
It took four days from submission to publication, and nearly five years from publication to retraction. After campaigning by many, many scientists, and an investigation by Elsevier, an infamous paper on hydroxychloroquine as a COVID-19 treatment has been retracted. π§ͺ

Born #OnThisDay in 1863 was American astronomer Annie Jump Cannon. Cannon, who lost most of her hearing early in her life, was one of the Harvard Computers, and her work was vital to the modern classification of stars. She classified around 350,000 stars during her career. #DisabilityHistoryMonth
