Many people are upset with how the city handled this news and I understand why. It feels less like a transparent announcement and more like a trial balloon to gauge public reaction before taking a definitive position.
The challenge will make transparent to all what the city is submitting. Saint Charles sends out an email of what they submit to census. The city has never made this public.
It would not be based on methodology, but input used. I would have challenged in June after the tornado. I think it will be difficult now, but we are assuming everyone in city hall is sending in the data, what if we find out they are not doing the work.
I have heard from several people that made request to get tornado related from the city that they have been denied.
Itβs striking how closed off the government became after the tornado. I still have friends there, but access to information shouldnβt depend on personal connections. A city isnβt truly open for business if workers ignore emails or use Sunshine requests simply to delay responses with a βno.β
St. Charles has never required me to file a Sunshine request. They provide data when asked. Under the new Spencer administration, many officials have not responded to my emails requesting information or data. I sent emails in September that has still received no response. I have given up.
She explained why she ultimately chose to sit on the sidelines during the reelection effort and did not lift a finger to help. The defining issue for her was the fencing around City Hall, which symbolized a broader disconnect between City Hall and the people it is meant to serve.
Friends, join me Wednesday morning at 8:11 AM on KMOX, where Iβll be discussing the demographic hurdles facing our region. The next 50 years will look nothing like the last 50. Educate yourselfβand get ahead of the demographic curve and find out why STL is on the same path as Pittsburgh.

I think it is down because of the govt shutdown
FYI The data is 2023 5 years estimates.
When you lead the state in the % of households receiving SNAP, you canβt afford to be reactive. Major cities across the country were at least a week ahead in developing programs to feed their residents. The program launched last Friday is a step in the right direction, the city needs a plan.

St. Louis - 18.7%

Very different setup from many cities. Depending on how long the federal government remains shut down, the city may have to step in with financial support. Food banks are already starting to see an increase in new users.

The lack of food has the potential to cause tremendous social suffering for residents across the city. You canβt always plan for a tornado, but you can and should plan for a disaster that is developing. This is why Mayors activated emergency plans for their residents. Its about the dignity residents.
St. Louis County's biggest election tonight was Proposition S in Rockwood School District, which would have raised its tax levy by 45 cents per $100 of assessed valuation-from approximately $3.7426/$100 to $4.1926/$100.
With all polls closed, it was defeated by just 497 votes.
Someone said me that converting a park into a parking lot is the kind of decision rooted in fear, not imagination, a move youβd expect from a baby boomer clinging to the past rather than building a city for the young. This student made a point.
Just a reminder the words poverty, food insecurity does not exist in this report and the word poor is mention one time "poor administration."
We do have leaders that care about the common good and poor.

The party of "destroy regulations" could, I dunno, maybe start with abolishing this nonsense.
