Something we've forgotten after 40 years of post-Star Wars/Bladerunner/Alien, but Scifi was originally a very abstract, colorful, expressive genre visually.

The thing that I initially loved about Marathon's artstyle was that it finally brought some COLOR back to scifi.
Alpha vs 2026 comparisons
If you're gonna try out Marathon today, remember a couple things:
This is not Tarkov or ARC or whatever else, it doesn't play the same. Learn the game's own mechanics.
You don't have a safe container.
Think, expect death, learn from your mistakes, and you'll have fun
SOβ¦Bungie invited me to the studio to see how different Marathon LOOKS now, visually.
Or, does it?
Looking closely at the details of the graphics side of Bungieβs shooter, through some artistic discussion, and HUD-OFF gameplay of maps Outpost, Perimeter, and Dire Marsh.

CAIRN has been phenomenal so far.
It does something many games have tried: taking a real, physical activity most games reduce to a single button press (climbing) and makes it the entire game, in a way that feels infinitely replayable.
Legendary hallway from ROUTINE's 2013 reveal trailer, recorded by Lunar Software in 2026 for my video.
Still would love to just stand in this space myself one day
Having Lunar Software record new footage of the 10+ year old UE3 version of ROUTINE for my video was such a crazy moment for me as a long time follower.
Some locations like this section of the living quarters really display the old game's more 70s-inspired art direction.
π₯NEW VIDEO TODAYπ₯
Discovering what's behind the mysterious development of a game revealed 13 years ago, and what it all means now that it's here, with the help of the devs themselves; this is what a passion project looks like.
A very special video for me.
Sit back and enjoy!
I'll be honest and say I think this is my best video ever, or certainly one of the most meaningful to make.
Tomorrow
π
This morning, @witdarkstar.bsky.social reminded me of a story I havenβt shared here. Starting from my time at 343, Iβd go out to lunch or to the bathroom and come back to find a little container of coffee creamer on my desk with βcream of the cropβ written in sharpie on top. I could never figure out
I spent a whole day crafting this 20 second sequence and you guys better well enjoy it!!!
(Video is coming very soon) π΄
This is my most interacted post of all time. Should I make a video on this topic?
Going far more cinematic than usual for this next video.
The subject matter deserves it.
stay tuned

My favorite unused alternate thumbnails of 2025:
2025 was a rollercoaster, but I want 2026 to be about HUMAN connection - meeting more friends, talking to artists and game devs, and exploring new places.
Oh, and I need to draw more.
Happy New Year! π
Cheers and see you soon - Riloe
Over the last couple weeks, I've had the insane privelege of speaking with Lunar Software about the development and design of ROUTINE - from 13 years ago to today.
Playing the game was an amazing experience, and learning what went into it even more so.
Stay tuned!! πππ
ROUTINE will stick with me for a long time.
There's much more to say, but Lunar Software should be very proud of this beautiful little work. It's something specialπΊ
I would do anything for him
