The sense of urgency is difficult to communicate.

I think people have trouble sometimes putting it into words. And also in some (of course not all) cases the threat isn’t as visceral. It’s so hard to describe accurately what it’s like to teach to the tests.

I really have doubts.

Been thinking about this exact thingβ€”possible that people who should care can’t imagine anyone not immediately understanding their view. Better than the alternative possibility, which is that they don’t think it matters since only some people should be expected to care about books/ideas.

It absolutely does. And then you see it over, and over, and over again, and it becomes obvious. Yet its unbelievable nature is why it's so hard to get others to see it.

it’s a really strange brew of factors that lead to the inattention, and it’s how the company accumulates power while another coalition builds against it from the right

Progressives and Democrats have become incurious about, and in some cases openly hostile to, public education issues. I do not understand it. It's bizarre. Universal free public education is one of the greatest achievements of this country, and a fundamentally progressive win.

it is so bonkers that in conservative leaning and right wing media outlets, people have been talking for years now about the β€œrecalibration” of ap scores and it’s otherwise crickets
