Yes, that kind of describes it. But they also built new applications with Perl, too (and I think they still do).
Using Moose and the Catalyst framework advanced things a bit in the end.
My first employer required me to write in Perl for 8 years 💀
They were looking for a PHP coder but when they realized I can write Perl, I never wrote a line of PHP code for them 🥲
1999, switching over from Perl to code the website for the German Wolf Association. Never looked back 🤩

What are your experiences with GitHub Copilot? Do you use it? Does it save you any time or does it just get in your way?
I am late to the party, but I just checked out GitHub Copilot for the first time two days ago. At this early stage I must say I am 55% more distracted, not 55% faster 😅
Plus, in tests, it did the same what all AI code generation so far did... infinite loops! I'd say our jobs are still safe. 😉
