Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter silvered wings
High Flight

To live is to fly
Low and high,
So shake the dust off of your wings
And the sleep out of your eyes

Delighted to greet my much awaited copy today, direct from OUP.
Vheissu is hardly a restful place. There’s barbarity, insurrection, internecine feud. It’s no different than any other godforesakenly remote region.

In choice of place, set
Before the body of the mind
in space and time:
America I’ve given you all and now I’m nothing.

And I once loved bagpipes; there was a young Marine on my ship who, when we weren’t conducting flight ops, would play the pipes at sunup on the bow. I lost this affection years later when I had an 8th floor office across from St Pat’s and the 12+ hours of pipes each parade day was too too much.
Different part of the state. But nevertheless, as you knew Tom LaF, you might be amused to google Wanden (pr: Wandeen) LaFarge - what an amazing woman she was, as was her second husband, Alexander (Andy) Kane. Their 5,000 acre spread was sparse but fun to ride on.
