3️⃣ By filling this gap, we provide a solid framework for evolutionary analyses across mosquito vectors🧬
They facilitate both fundamental research and applied vector control strategies 🔝
2️⃣ These species are of great public-health importance because they are vectors of different pathogens, such as West Nile virus and Usutu virus 🦠🦟
Despite their epidemiological relevance, these species were previously underrepresented in genomic databases 🔎
Happy our latest work is out! 🧬🦟
1️⃣ We present chromosome-level reference genomes for four Culex species present in the Mediterranean Basin
🦟Cx. laticinctus
🦟Cx. modestus
🦟Cx. perexiguus
🦟Cx. theileri
They were generated as part of @ergabiodiv.bsky.social initiative's @biogeneurope.bsky.social
GBE | ERGA-BGE Genomes of Culex laticinctus, Culex modestus, Culex perexiguus, and Culex theileri: Unveiling the Genomes of the Key Vectors of West Nile Virus in the Mediterranean Basin
Ruiz-López et al. assemble reference sequences for four Culex species, offering crucial resources for exploring the genetic basis of vector competence for different pathogens, and help implement mosquito control efforts and disease prevention.

Sometimes work looks like this and I LOVE IT! 🧬🦟
How does life evolve to adapt to modern cities?
Out now in Science, my PhD work with @lindymcbr.bsky.social uncovers the ancient origin of the “London Underground mosquito” – one of the most iconic examples of urban adaptation.

PLEASE REPOST!!!
I'm so happy to have shared this amazing conference, not only with fellow students, but with friends❤️🧬
We still have time for a bit more fun on the last day of #ESEB2025

@ebdonana.bsky.social #PhD students at #ESEB2025🧬
We shared research on bird seed dispersal, mosquito pop genomics, and Iberian lynx phylogenomics & conservation genetics.
Thank you for a wonderful congress filled with new connections and inspiring discussions.
@eseb2025.bsky.social
➡️ Nice experience sharing some results about the alien plant Cotula coronopifolia in Europe at #ESEB2025
🌱🧬
➡️ We found an unusual genetic structure shaped by selfing, introduction history and waterbirds 🦆
➡️ Great discussions and valuable feedback to shape our next steps ✅
#PopulationGenomics
As a community, it’s wonderful to meet in person after so many online meetings!
📸 Here are some of the many #ERGA members at #ESEB2025.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth to say hi and learn more about ERGA!
#GenomesForBiodiversity
Full house in S30 to listen to Prof. Matthew Fitzpatrick. "Can ecological genomics predict population maladaptation under climate change? Lessons learned from 10 years of working with genomic offsets" #ESEB2025
😍Loved helping decorate Carrer Perill for #FestesdeGràcia and sharing how genetics 🧬 has helped conserve the Iberian lynx — a fantastic outreach event by @lcatmon.bsky.social, @eseb.bsky.social & @sesbe-org.bsky.social

#eseb2025 talks were great so far. Subjective ranking of the most common quotes:
- theory and modeling: "with this very simple approach"
- genomics: "using methodology you all know"
- plenaries: "Nature/Science" in the bottom right of a slide
- posters: "una cerveza por favor"

Second Amazing day at #ESEB2025!!!
Thanks to all who came to check out my poster!! I had a great time and enjoyed so much discussing about chromosomal inversions in different study systems 🧬 #ESEB2025
I stopped by the @britishecologicalsociety.org booth at the #ESEB2025 because OF COURSE I had to draw a lil Culex pipiens. Is it pipiens or molestus? I don't know. Stop by poster P02.181 and I'll explain yo why 😉
Robert Waterhouse at #ESEB2025 - PIs/Profs please give your students a break when they're doing orthology, ancestral state reconstruction, gene/species tree reconciliation work - it's not an overnight process, there are no push-button tools, and fast doesn't equal correct! Love this :-)
My highlight from this second morning of #ESEB25 is the great talk of @clairemerot.bsky.social on structural genomic variants. (yes, we all struggle when bioinformatics analyses don't meet our expected patterns 😒)
